Position Summary The Director, Site Operations & Legal is responsible for providing leadership for Carestream Health's Mexico legal entity and Guadalajara operations. This role combines responsibility for the day-to-day leadership of the site with legal oversight, ensuring the organization operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable laws, corporate policies, and business objectives.
The Director leads the coordination of multiple functions located within the Guadalajara office, including the Business Operations Center, Finance, Human Resources, Procurement, Facilities, and Administrative Services. While many functional leaders maintain reporting relationships to leaders in the United States, this position provides local leadership, alignment, and coordination to ensure effective collaboration, operational excellence, employee engagement, and consistent execution of company objectives.
In addition to site leadership responsibilities, the Director serves as the primary legal advisor for Carestream's Mexico legal entity, providing practical legal guidance on employment, commercial, corporate, compliance, and operational matters that support the Company's business in the United States and its global customers.
Key Responsibilities
Site Operations Leadership
- Provide overall leadership for Carestream's Guadalajara site and Mexico legal entity.
- Foster a safe, collaborative, and productive work environment that supports employee engagement and operational excellence.
- Lead the local site leadership team and facilitate collaboration across all functions located within the Guadalajara office.
- Align site priorities with corporate objectives while ensuring consistent execution of company initiatives.
- Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, continuous improvement, and customer service.
- Represent the Guadalajara site in cross-functional planning and operational discussions with U.S.-based leadership.
- Ensure effective communication between local employees and global functional leadership.
- Oversee business continuity planning, emergency preparedness, crisis response, and operational readiness for the site.
- Partner with Facilities and Environmental Health & Safety to maintain a safe, secure, and compliant workplace.
Legal & Human Resources Leadership
- Serve as the primary legal advisor for Carestream's Mexico legal entity and provide overall local Human Resources leadership in alignment with global business and HR strategies.
- Provide legal counsel on employment, labor, commercial, corporate, compliance, contractual, and general business matters.
- Partner with Human Resources leadership to support workforce planning, talent development, employee engagement, organizational effectiveness, labor relations, succession planning, and leadership development initiatives.
- Advise leadership on employee lifecycle matters including hiring, compensation, performance management, investigations, discipline, workforce restructuring, and separations.
- Serve as a key advisor and leader on employee relations matters, workplace investigations, and labor relations issues, ensuring consistent application of company policies and Mexican employment laws.
- Interpret applicable Mexican laws and regulations and provide practical guidance to support business and people-related decisions.
- Draft, review, negotiate, and manage commercial agreements, employment agreements, corporate documents, procurement contracts, and other legal documentation.
- Manage litigation, administrative proceedings, regulatory matters, and relationships with outside legal counsel.
- Monitor changes in applicable laws and regulations and recommend appropriate actions to maintain compliance.
- Foster an inclusive, respectful, and positive workplace culture that supports employee engagement, leadership effectiveness, and organizational performance.
- Support strategic business initiatives involving the Mexico legal entity and contribute to the overall effectiveness and long-term sustainability of the Guadalajara operation.
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Coordinate activities across the Business Operations Center, Finance, Human Resources, Procurement, Legal, Facilities, and Administrative Services.
- Support collaboration among local leaders whose functional reporting relationships reside within U.S.-based organizations.
- Identify and resolve operational issues that impact productivity, customer service, or employee experience.
- Promote consistency in the implementation of corporate policies, processes, and organizational initiatives.
- Support organizational planning, resource allocation, and operational priorities across the site.
Business Operations Center
- Provide oversight for the Business Operations Center located in Guadalajara.
- Ensure the organization effectively supports Carestream's United States business and global customers through high-quality operational services.
- Monitor operational performance, service delivery, and customer satisfaction.
- Promote continuous improvement initiatives that enhance efficiency, quality, and productivity.
- Partner with business leaders to identify opportunities for operational improvements and process standardization.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with applicable Mexican laws, corporate policies, and internal governance requirements.
- Partner with Compliance, Human Resources, Finance, Internal Audit, and Quality to maintain an effective control environment.
- Conduct legal and operational risk assessments and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Support internal and external audits involving the Mexico legal entity.
- Promote ethical business practices and a culture of compliance throughout the organization.
Finance Partnership
- Partner with Finance leadership to support the effective operation of the Mexico legal entity.
- Support compliance with statutory reporting requirements, internal controls, and financial governance.
- Assist with annual operating budgets, capital planning, and site operating expenses as appropriate.
- Support business planning and resource allocation initiatives impacting the Guadalajara site.
Procurement & Administrative Services
- Provide oversight for local procurement activities and administrative services supporting the Guadalajara site.
- Partner with Procurement leadership to ensure compliance with corporate purchasing policies and applicable regulations.
- Support vendor management and supplier relationships impacting local operations.
- Promote cost-effective and efficient business practices.
External Relationships
- Represent Carestream with local governmental agencies, regulatory authorities, legal advisors, and other external organizations as appropriate.
- Support the Company's reputation through professional relationships with external stakeholders.
Qualifications
Education
- Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent law degree from an accredited institution.
- Active license to practice law in Mexico.
Experience
- 10+ years of progressively responsible legal experience in a law firm or corporate legal department.
- Experience supporting multinational organizations operating in Mexico.
- Previous leadership experience managing cross-functional teams, including but not limited to Human Resources or business operations.
- Experience in medical device, healthcare, or another regulated industry preferred.
- Experience working within a matrix organization supporting global business operations.
- Demonstrated ability to balance legal, operational, and business priorities.
