**Description**
This position manages the implementation of power distribution on an assigned shift to maintain maximum utilization of locomotives, fuel, and operating personnel at minimum cost.
Manages the flow of engines into and out of repair shops.
It receives a moderate level of guidance and direction.
This role solves a range of moderately complex problems.
It leads projects of limited scope and portions of larger projects.
This role provides informal guidance to team members with less experience.
It contributes to department objectives and outcomes as guided.
**Accountabilities**
- Monitors locomotives not moved in 12 hours, researches causes, and implements solutions.
- Communicates online issues or escalations to the Corridor Management and Mechanical departments for resolution.
- Prepares and distributes daily summary communication through a bucket line.
- Coordinates resource sharing with foreign line carriers.
- Compiles data for multiple reports and presents to appropriate departments.
- Understands the relevant business metrics and applies effective tactics to sustain a culture of operational effectiveness that produces teams of high performing, engaged and empowered operational leaders.
- Allocate locomotive fleet on a day-to-day basis for an assigned territory that supports the Operating Plan and Bulk Operating Plan;
- Ensure locomotive maintenance schedules are met;
- Plan bad order enroute and overdue schedule maintenance locomotives to the assigned shop;
- Communicate daily locomotive plans via LMP, SOP and any other means necessary;
- Ensure productivity levels are maximized by the efficient assignment of available fleet to plan and that locomotive consists meet the OP locomotive profile;
- Enter all data in a timely manner into locomotive management systems and ensures the integrity of said data;
- Enter order/supply variance data into NEXUS;
- Ensure accurate tracking of all foreign and off-line locomotive usage by CPKC and connecting carriers;
- Ensure that other distribution demands as directed by Director Locomotive Distribution and/or Superintendents are met.
- Develops and retains a strong team of high performers; creates a challenging and rewarding work environment; organizes a diverse group of people into a cohesive team to leverage their energy, knowledge and skills; creates grassroots / localized events to train & develop others - including location-specific safety training, localized Speak Up events, regular recognition or team-building activities.
**Required**
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Minimum five (5) years of relevant operations experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Specialist knowledge of one or more disciplines of railroad operations
- Post-secondary education or equivalent industry knowledge;
- Experience with CPKC is required, positions within Mechanical services, Operations,
Transportation or the Transportation industry would be an asset;
- Geographic and/or commercial knowledge of CPKC system would be an asset.
Knowledge of applicable Transport Canada and FRA regulation relating to train service would be an asset;
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills;
- Strong attention to detail skills;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills;
- Ability to cope with stress and continue to deal effectively in emergent situations;
- Strong communication skills;
- Strong leadership skills - ability to function as part of a team;
- Able to deal with emergent situations on a continuous basis.
**Preferred**
- Logistics experience
**Working Conditions**
- This position is required to pay monthly Union dues.
- Shift work is an essential function of this job.
Employees must have the ability and willingness to support critically important railroad operations 24 hours per day/7 days per week, working various shifts as assigned.
Schedule assignments may include after-hours, weekends and holidays.
- On-call responsibilities are an essential function of this job.

On-call assignments may include after-hours, weekends and holidays.
- This position may require mínimal travel up to 10% of the time.
