Requirements
Must have
7+ years of experience in Java development, including hands-on experience with Java 8 in production environments.
5+ years of experience with Hibernate/JPA, including hands-on work with Hibernate 4.x in legacy applications.
Proven experience delivering at least one Oracle to PostgreSQL database migration (or equivalent) within a Java-based application environment.
Strong expertise in Oracle and PostgreSQL SQL, with the ability to translate and optimize Oracle-specific features such as NVL, SYSDATE, ROWNUM, DECODE, DUAL, MERGE, CONNECT BY, and sequences.
Experience with Spring Framework 4.x using XML-based configuration.
Strong knowledge of LOB migrations, including BLOB/CLOB to PostgreSQL bytea/text conversions.
Experience with Gradle multi-module builds.
Hands-on experience converting PL/SQL code to PL/pgSQL.
Nice to have
Experience with Grails 5.x, GORM, and Groovy.
Experience with Quartz Scheduler.
Experience with HikariCP connection pooling.
Knowledge of Flyway and/or Liquibase for database versioning and migrations.




Responsibilities
Lead and own all application-side changes required for the migration of a Java/Grails application suite from Oracle to PostgreSQL on Azure.
Perform database migration activities across 8 Java application modules while maintaining the existing application architecture and framework versions.
Update JDBC dependencies and Hibernate dialect configurations to support PostgreSQL.
Validate and remediate Hibernate ORM mappings for PostgreSQL compatibility.
Analyze and resolve LOB handling issues during the migration process.
Review, translate, and optimize Oracle-specific SQL across more than 100 DAO components.
Convert and validate 51 maintenance scripts from Oracle to PostgreSQL standards.
Collaborate with technical teams to ensure a smooth migration, performance validation, and successful deployment.
