Senior Repair Engineer
This position requires hands-on experience in Repair Engineering, MRO, and turbomachinery, together with the technical judgment to assess component condition and define sound, well-supported repair strategies. Beyond executing established procedures, the engineer will be expected to develop repair criteria, methodologies, and technical repair routes, particularly when no predefined solution exists.
Key Responsibilities
• Evaluate turbomachinery components based on Fit, Form & Function to determine condition, repairability, and required recovery.
• Define repair strategies and process sequences, integrating machining, welding, thermal spray, heat treatment, coatings, NDT, and other applicable processes.
• Develop repair and acceptance criteria, repair procedures, inspection methods, and Engineering Specifications, particularly when no directly applicable OEM criteria exist.
• Interpret engineering drawings, OEM specifications, dimensional requirements, and GD&T; to support repair decisions.
• Assess dimensional, metallurgical, and NDT results and analyze damage and failure mechanisms in turbomachinery components.
• Technically substantiate repair solutions through engineering calculations, testing, metallurgical evidence, service history, and applicable standards.
• Provide technical leadership on the shop floor, resolve critical engineering issues, and develop countermeasures to improve repair quality and reliability.
• Establish and strengthen Repair Engineering methodologies, processes, and standards, while transferring technical knowledge to engineering and workshop teams.
Education
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Design, Aerospace Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, or a related engineering field.
• Professional degree and license (cédula cualificado) required.
• Advanced coursework or specialized experience in repair engineering, materials, metallurgy, or turbomachinery is a strong advantage.
Experience
• 8+ years of engineering experience, including 5+ years in MRO, Repair Engineering, or major maintenance of rotating equipment.
• 3+ years of direct turbomachinery experience, preferably with gas turbines, steam turbines, and/or centrifugal compressors.
• Proven experience evaluating used or damaged components and determining repairability.
• Experience defining and technically supporting repair, acceptance, rejection, replacement, or scrap decisions.
• Experience developing repair solutions or criteria beyond established OEM procedures.
• Experience in an OEM, authorized repair facility, or specialized turbomachinery repair environment is highly valued.
Technical Knowledge & Core Competencies
• Strong knowledge of Fit, Form & Function, repair processes, and turbomachinery component evaluation.
• Working knowledge of machining, welding, thermal spray, heat treatment, coatings, NDT, metrology, and GD&T.;
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, OEM specifications, tolerances, and dimensional requirements.
• Understanding of damage and failure mechanisms, metallurgy, rotor balancing, and dimensional recovery.
• Advanced technical English and proficiency with 3D CAD, Excel, and technical/document management systems.
• Strong critical thinking, technical judgment, analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound decisions when solutions are not predefined.
• Ownership, technical creativity, leadership, and a builder mindset, with the ability to develop repair methodologies, technical criteria, and engineering solutions.
• Ability to influence multidisciplinary teams, provide technical leadership, and transfer knowledge.
Nice to Have
• NDT Level II certification in at least two methods.
• CWI, IWE, or equivalent.
• GD&T; / ASME Y14.5.
• AS9100 / ISO 9001 knowledge.
• Experience with structural analysis tools.
