Bilingual Supervisory Paralegal – Immigration Removal Defense
Position: Supervisory Paralegal
Practice Area: Immigration – Removal/Deportation Defense
Languages: Bilingual English/Spanish
Reports To: Supervising Attorney
Position Summary
We are seeking a highly organized, experienced, and bilingual English/Spanish Supervisory Paralegal to support our immigration practice, with a primary focus on removal and deportation defense cases.
The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of Immigration Court procedures, excellent case-management skills, and the ability to supervise, train, and coordinate the work of other paralegals. This position requires someone who is proactive, detail-oriented, dependable, and capable of managing multiple cases and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise, train, and support paralegals and legal support staff.
- Manage and monitor removal-defense cases before Immigration Court.
- Assist attorneys with the preparation of motions, applications, declarations, briefs, exhibits, and supporting documentation.
- Prepare and coordinate filings with Immigration Court/EOIR under attorney supervision.
- Track court dates, filing deadlines, application deadlines, and other case-related deadlines.
- Coordinate preparation for Master Calendar Hearings, Individual Hearings, bond proceedings, and other immigration court matters.
- Assist with preparation of motions to continue, motions to reopen, motions to terminate/dismiss, changes of venue, and other procedural motions as directed by the supervising attorney.
- Review paralegal work for accuracy, completeness, organization, and compliance with office procedures.
- Conduct quality-control reviews of case files before attorney review and filing.
- Identify missing documentation, potential filing issues, and upcoming deadlines and promptly communicate them to the supervising attorney.
- Communicate with clients in English and Spanish regarding document requests, appointments, deadlines, and case-related administrative matters.
- Coordinate the collection and organization of evidence, declarations, identity documents, immigration records, criminal records, and other supporting documentation.
- Maintain accurate and organized electronic and physical case files.
- Assign tasks to paralegals and monitor workflow and completion of assignments.
- Develop and maintain case-management procedures, checklists, and quality-control systems.
- Assist with training new paralegals and improving team efficiency.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of client information.
- Perform other duties related to immigration case management as assigned by supervising attorneys.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as an immigration paralegal, preferably with significant experience in Removal Defense.
- Experience handling cases before Immigration Court/EOIR.
- Fluent/bilingual in English and Spanish, both written and spoken.
- Strong organizational and case-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines simultaneously.
- Previous supervisory, leadership, or training experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify errors before documents are filed.
- Proficiency with computers, email, Microsoft Office, and case-management software.
- Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a team.
- Professionalism, reliability, accountability, and discretion.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience preparing and reviewing Immigration Court motions and filing packages.
- Familiarity with EOIR procedures and Immigration Court filing requirements.
- Experience with asylum, cancellation of removal, adjustment of status, and other forms of removal defense.
- Experience supervising a team of paralegals.
- Experience managing high-volume immigration caseloads.
- Strong understanding of immigration case deadlines and procedural requirements.
- Ability to establish effective systems for deadline tracking and quality control.
The candidate should be comfortable working directly with attorneys, staff, and clients and should demonstrate excellent judgment regarding when an issue needs to be escalated to a supervising attorney. Important: This is a legal support position performed under attorney supervision. The paralegal will not provide independent legal advice or independently make legal-strategy decisions.
Sueldo: $20,000.00 - $27,000.00 al mes
