SAFETY Coordinator
Description
Safety Coordinator is responsible for leading and driving the implementation, sustainability, and continuous improvement of the Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Management System at Hussmann Monterrey Operations, ensuring compliance with applicable Mexican regulations (STPS, environmental and legal requirements), corporate standards, and ISO 45001 guidelines.
This position plays a key role in strengthening Hussmann’s Safety Culture through proactive risk identification, prevention strategies, operational discipline, employee engagement, and leadership presence on the manufacturing floor. The Safety Coordinator will coordinate and oversee occupational safety programs, critical risk controls, safety training, emergency preparedness, incident investigations, and corrective action management to reduce injuries, operational risks, and unsafe behaviors.
This position is also responsible for supporting operational excellence initiatives by integrating EHS requirements into daily manufacturing activities, high-risk operations, contractor management, and continuous improvement processes. This role acts as a subject matter expert in occupational safety, drives compliance with safety standards and procedures, and promotes a culture of accountability, hazard awareness, and continuous improvement across all plant operations.
Additionally, the Safety Coordinator will support corporate EHS initiatives, audits, KPI performance, regulatory inspections, and strategic projects focused on protecting employees, business continuity, and operational sustainability.
Main Responsibilities
•Lead the implementation, administration, and continuous improvement of Occupational Safety and Health programs to ensure compliance with Hussmann standards, ISO 45001 requirements, and applicable Mexican regulations (STPS and environmental regulations).
•Develop, implement, update, and maintain EHS procedures, programs, manuals, work instructions, risk assessments, permits,
and records required for safe plant operations and regulatory compliance.
Coordinate Critical Risk Management programs including LOTO, Work at Heights, Electrical Safety, Hot Work, Machine Guarding, Confined Space Entry, Crane & Rigging activities, and Powered Industrial Trucks.
•Drive and promote a proactive Safety Culture through GEMBA Walks, safety campaigns, employee engagement, behavioral observations, supervisor involvement, and leadership participation across all plant operations.
•Coordinate and ensure compliance of contractor safety activities, including inductions, permits, safe work practices, documentation, and adherence to Hussmann EHS standards during onsite activities.
•Support the development, implementation, and sustainability of the Hussmann EHS Management System, ensuring compliance with ISO 45001 standards, corporate initiatives, legal requirements, and continuous improvement objectives.
•Coordinate emergency preparedness and response activities including Emergency Brigades, drills, contingency plans, fire protection systems, evacuation programs, and crisis management activities.
•Lead and support incident investigations, near miss reporting, unsafe condition follow-up, and root cause analysis activities using methodologies such as A3, 5 Why’s, and corrective action systems to prevent recurrence.
•Monitor, analyze, and report EHS performance indicators (KPIs), trends, audit findings, corrective actions, and compliance metrics to support operational and corporate objectives.
•Participate in internal, external, customer, corporate, and regulatory audits,
ensuring timely closure of findings and maintaining continuous compliance with applicable standards and legal requirements.
•Coordinate Occupational Safety training programs to ensure employees, supervisors, contractors, and visitors are properly trained on risks, procedures, emergency response, and safe work practices.
•Support risk assessments, ergonomic evaluations, process changes, equipment installations, and continuous improvement projects to reduce operational risks and strengthen workplace safety conditions.
•Ensure the proper functioning and compliance of the Joint Safety & Health Commission and Area Safety Committees in accordance with Mexican labor regulations.
•Act as a technical advisor and subject matter expert on Occupational Safety matters, supporting Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, HR, and other departments in the implementation of safe operational practices.
Requirements
•Intermediate to advanced English proficiency
•Minimum of 3 years of experience in the industry
•First Aid, Fire Brigade, and HAZMAT training
•Safety audit planning
•Emergency preparedness and response, as well as health and safety guidelines
•Personnel management, interaction with government authorities, and vendor management
•Relevant knowledge of EHS Regulations, critical thinking, sampling methods, mathematical skills, and project management.
•Knowledge of hazardous materials and handling procedures.
•Skill in developing and administering training to large audiences.
•Skill in using a personal computer and a variety of software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
•Skill in analyzing data and reporting on findings.
•Skill in communicating in a professional manner, both verbally and in writing.
•Established skill balancing the application of Safety best practices and trends to help the business grow along with delivery of traditional Safety functions.
•Ability to communicate with employees at all levels.
•Strong ability to think critically and innovatively.
