**JOB SUMMARY**
As an SEM/EDS Analysis Specialist, your role will focus on utilizing energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) analysis in conjunction with scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to provide accurate and detailed elemental composition and chemical characterization of various materials. Your expertise in SEM/EDS techniques will contribute to the optimization of manufacturing processes and support quality control initiatives.
**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
SEM/EDS Analysis:
- Perform SEM/EDS analysis on a diverse range of materials, including metals, minerals, polymers, ceramics, and biological samples.
- Utilize the scanning electron microscope (SEM) to capture high-resolution images of the samples.
- Acquire energy-dispersive X-ray spectra to identify and quantify the elemental composition of the samples.
- Analyze and interpret SEM/EDS data to provide comprehensive reports on elemental analysis and material characterization.
Equipment Maintenance and Calibration:
- Conduct regular maintenance and calibration of SEM and EDS equipment to ensure accurate and reliable performance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to SEM/EDS equipment and optimize instrument settings for different sample types.
Sample Preparation:
- Prepare samples for analysis, including mounting, polishing, and appropriate coating for conductivity.




- Follow established procedures for sample handling and ensure sample integrity throughout the analysis process.
Quality Control and Process Improvement:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support quality control initiatives and process improvement efforts.
- Identify areas for optimization and propose solutions to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of SEM/EDS analysis.
Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Analyze and interpret SEM/EDS data using relevant software tools to generate accurate and meaningful reports.
- Communicate findings and results to stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
Safety and Compliance:
- Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards pertaining to SEM/EDS analysis.
**JOB QUALIFICATIONS**
**KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS**
- In-depth knowledge and understanding of SEM/EDS principles, techniques, and data interpretation.
- Proficiency in operating and maintaining scanning electron microscopes (SEM) and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) equipment.
- Experience in sample preparation techniques, including mounting, polishing, and conductive coating.
- Familiarity with SEM/EDS software for data acquisition, processing, and image analysis.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot technical issues related to SEM/EDS analysis.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to handle and analyze complex data sets.
- Effective communication skills to convey technical information and present findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Preferred Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, or a related field.
