ISP Elementary Teacher Assistant Role Profile

Purpose of Role To support the classroom teacher in providing a safe, positive, and engaging learning environment for elementary students. The Teacher Assistant helps students with their academic, social, and emotional development while supporting daily classroom activities and school routines..

Key Responsibilities

- Assist the classroom teacher with daily lessons, activities, and learning materials.
- Provide individual or small-group support to students who need additional assistance.
- Help students develop positive social, communication, and classroom behaviors.
- Supervise students during classroom activities, recess, lunch, transitions, and other school activities.
- Support students with classroom routines and personal needs as appropriate.
- Prepare, organize, and maintain classroom materials and learning resources.
- Encourage student participation, confidence, independence, and positive behavior.
- Monitor student progress and communicate observations to the classroom teacher.
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment.
- Work cooperatively with teachers, staff, families, and other school professionals.
- Follow school policies, procedures, and student safeguarding requirements.
- Provide additional support for students with diverse learning needs as directed by the teacher.

- Cultural sensitivity – Respectful and inclusive of all backgrounds and abilities.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor´s Degree
- TKT Training Course
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Relevant coursework or certification in education, child development, or a related field is preferred.
- First Aid/CPR certification may be required or preferred depending on school requirements.
- Completion of required background checks and safeguarding requirements.
- Additional qualifications related to special education or early childhood education are an advantage.

Experience:

- Previous experience working with elementary-age children is preferred.
- Experience as a teacher assistant, classroom aide, tutor, childcare provider, camp counselor, or similar role is an advantage.
- Experience supporting students with different learning abilities or educational needs is desirable.
- Experience working collaboratively with teachers or educational staff is beneficial.
