Our client school in Puebla, Mexico is seeking a University Counselor / Academic Coach to start in August, ****
PLEASE NOTE: THIS POSITION is mostly focussed on Mexican universities, therefore professional level Spanish and English are required, as well as a thorough knowledge of Mexican universities.
Job Objective
To provide comprehensive support to Diploma Programme students in their career guidance and university admission process, ensuring personalized, informed guidance aligned with International Baccalaureate standards.
Job Conditions
● Full-time position, with a workload of 40 periods per week.
● Availability to participate in occasional events outside of regular working hours.
● Attendance at university promotional events (presentations, fairs, information sessions, etc.).
Required Qualifications and Skills
● Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Career Counseling, or related fields.
● Prior experience in university advising, preferably in schools with an IB program.
● Knowledge of admission processes at national and international universities.
Language
●
Minimum C1 level of English and Spanish (essential)

● Excellent command of English in:
○ Academic writing (essays, letters, applications)
○ Verbal communication (interaction with universities and presentations)
Foreign candidates already living in Mexico will have a singnificant advantage in this placement.

Main Functions
1. Student Support
● Advise students in selecting universities and academic programs that align with their profile, interests, and professional goals.
● Provide guidance throughout the entire university admission process.
● Assist in the preparation and revision of personal and academic essays and letters of motivation.
● Guide students in requesting letters of recommendation.
● Provide individualized follow-up to each student throughout their application process.
● Inform students promptly about key dates (standardized tests, deadlines, scholarship and financial aid applications).
● Conduct intensive university preparation sessions (bootcamps).
2. Application Management
● Complete and validate institutional forms required by universities (e.g., school reports, counselor reports).
● Ensure the correct submission of official school documentation.
● Monitor students' compliance with requirements.
3. University Relations
● Establish and maintain relationships with admissions officers and agents at national and international universities.
● Create and strengthen agreements and institutional ties that benefit student admissions.
● Serve as a liaison between students and universities.
● Receive representatives from universities and educational agencies at the school.
● Attend promotional events organized by universities (presentations, fairs,
information sessions).
● Maintain constant communication with partner universities.
4. Institutional Planning and Coordination
● Hold annual planning meetings with partner universities.
● Coordinate and schedule visits, talks, and activities that these universities will offer to students.
● Ensure the follow-up and compliance with agreements established with external institutions.
5. Outreach and Events
● Organize the University Fair (national and international).
● Coordinate Professional Day.
● Organize informational sessions about studying abroad and in
Mexico.
● Promote academic opportunities, scholarships, and international programs.
6. Institutional Information
● Develop and update the School Profile annually.
● Collect relevant institutional data:
○ Number of students and faculty
○ Academic results
○ University enrollment data
● Record statistics on graduates' career choices and university destinations.
7. Parent Relations
● Provide guidance on career orientation and admissions processes.
● Inform parents about university partnerships and academic opportunities.
● Follow up on questions and support families in the decision-making process.
8. Academic Articulation
● Have in-depth knowledge of the school's curricula, especially the IB Diploma Programme.
● Identify how the student's academic profile favors their admission to
Mexican national
and international universities.
● Align university advising with the student's academic development.
● Coordinate communication between departments for the preparation of documents such as letters of recommendation, predicted grades, etc.
