role description

leads the planning, execution, and continuous improvement of conservation, regeneration, and shared prosperity programs focused on the restoration and stewardship of integrated peri-urban watershed–aquifer–estuary systems.

oversees multidisciplinary teams, strategic partnerships, project implementation, operational systems, budgets, performance indicators, risk management, and institutional reporting to ensure the efficient delivery of high-impact environmental initiatives.

works collaboratively with government agencies, research institutions, nonprofit organizations, local communities, landowners, industry associations, contractors, consultants, and funding partners to incubate and implement science-based peri-urban initiatives in ecological restoration, watershed management, aquifer recharge protection, estuary conservation, coastal resilience, sustainable landscapes, and community-based stewardship.





the role supports the transformation of ideas, partnerships, and field-based opportunities into practical initiatives that strengthen ecosystem health, restore degraded habitats, improve water security, enhance governance, and generate long-term value for communities and nature.

responsibilities include managing operational workflows, coordinating cross-functional teams, optimizing processes, addressing implementation risks, supporting strategic planning, supervising field activities, and reporting results to leadership, partners, authorities, and funders.

we welcome candidates from diverse professional backgrounds. The ideal person is not defined by a single academic pathway, but by a demonstrated ability to deliver complex territorial projects involving multiple stakeholders, technical disciplines, regulatory processes, budgets, timelines, and field execution.

relevant experience may include urban and rural development, public infrastructure, environmental restoration, public-private partnerships, parks and public spaces, water infrastructure, transportation, real estate development, capital projects, nonprofit leadership, protected area management, or other complex territorial initiatives.

the strongest candidates will have successfully led projects requiring coordination among government agencies, private companies, consultants, contractors, landowners, industry associations, community organizations, research institutions, and funding partners, while managing budgets, permitting processes, procurement, implementation risks, reporting requirements, and operational accountability.

qualifications

* strong operations management skills to oversee field programs, workflows, contractors, consultants,



and implementation processes across integrated peri-urban watershed–aquifer–estuary systems.

* advanced analytical skills for data-driven decision-making, performance tracking, monitoring and evaluation, process optimization, and adaptive management.

* proven team management experience, including field supervision, coaching, performance management, and cross-functional collaboration.

* demonstrated budgeting capabilities for planning, forecasting, controlling operational expenditures, managing contracts, and preparing transparent, auditable reports.

* strong stakeholder engagement skills to maintain high-quality relationships with government agencies, research institutions, communities, landowners, funders, contractors, and internal teams.

* experience in conservation, ecological restoration, watershed management, estuary conservation, protected areas, wetlands, infrastructure, public works, territorial development, or nonprofit environmental organizations is highly beneficial.

* strong organizational, problem-solving, risk management, and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, field activities, partners, and reporting requirements simultaneously.

* excellent written and verbal communication skills in spanish; english proficiency is an advantage.

* bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, business administration, project management, urban planning, environmental sciences, finance, public policy, natural resource management, or another relevant field.

* knowledge of mexico's environmental and protected area framework, particularly in baja california sur, is highly desirable.

* experience with project management tools, results-based management, logical frameworks, monitoring and evaluation systems, procurement processes, and institutional reporting is desirable.

* gis proficiency is an advantage for planning, mapping, monitoring, and documenting interventions across the watershed, aquifer, estuary, and adjacent lands.

* comfort working in complex institutional environments and collaborating with diverse government, scientific, civil society, community, philanthropic, and private-sector actors.
