Key Responsibilities

Academic and Curriculum Leadership

- Lead the implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of the Secondary English curriculum in alignment with the applicable Cambridge framework.
- Ensure vertical curriculum alignment and appropriate progression of knowledge and skills across grade levels.
- Ensure alignment between learning objectives, content, teaching methodologies, and assessment practices.
- Monitor teachers' academic planning and curriculum implementation.
- Promote student-centred teaching approaches that develop critical thinking, research, communication, and independent learning skills.
- Ensure balanced development of Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking skills.
- Keep up to date with Cambridge curriculum developments, syllabus changes, assessment objectives, and academic requirements.

Cambridge Curriculum and Assessment

- Oversee the effective implementation of the relevant Cambridge programmes within Secondary School.
- Ensure teachers understand and effectively apply Cambridge learning objectives and assessment criteria.
- Coordinate students' academic preparation for internal and external Cambridge assessments, where applicable.
- Analyse Cambridge and internal assessment results to identify strengths, learning gaps, and areas for improvement.
- Work collaboratively with teachers to develop intervention strategies to improve student achievement.
- Promote consistent formative and summative assessment practices aligned with Cambridge standards.
- Review the quality, validity, and relevance of examinations, projects, assignments, and other assessment instruments.
- Ensure consistent and transparent assessment and feedback practices across the department.

Teacher Supervision and Professional Development

- Monitor the academic and pedagogical performance of English teachers.
- Conduct classroom observations and provide clear, constructive, and development-focused feedback.
- Identify professional development needs within the department.
- Coordinate department meetings, collaborative planning sessions, and opportunities to share best practices.
- Support new English teachers during their induction and onboarding process.
- Promote a culture of collaboration, professional reflection, and continuous improvement.
- Share Cambridge updates, resources, and effective teaching practices with the department.

Student Achievement and Development

- Systematically monitor student academic progress and English language development.
- Analyse student performance data to identify trends, learning gaps, and specific needs.
- Develop strategies to support students who are underperforming and, where appropriate, provide additional academic challenge for high-achieving students.
- Promote critical thinking, analysis, argumentation, research, and effective communication.
- Encourage students to use English accurately and effectively in academic and real-world contexts.
- Participate in academic meetings to review student progress and identify appropriate support strategies.

Department Planning and Management

- Develop and monitor the English Department's annual action plan.
- Coordinate regular department meetings and ensure agreements, responsibilities,



and follow-up actions are documented.
- Manage and monitor the academic resources and materials required by the department.
- Participate in departmental budget planning and monitoring.
- Recommend new resources, materials, platforms, and educational technologies that enhance student learning.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date curriculum and academic documentation.

Communication and Collaboration

- Maintain effective and professional communication with the Secondary School Principal and academic leadership team.
- Collaborate with other departments and subject coordinators to promote interdisciplinary learning.
- Communicate with parents when necessary regarding students' academic performance and progress.
- Participate in academic meetings, committees, and school-wide initiatives.
- Represent the English Department in relevant academic forums and institutional meetings.
- Maintain communication with Cambridge representatives, trainers, or relevant external organisations when required.

Quality Assurance, Audits, and Compliance

- Maintain organised and up-to-date academic documentation required for audits, inspections, accreditation, and institutional reviews.
- Ensure appropriate documentary evidence of curriculum implementation, planning, assessment, student results, and improvement actions.
- Follow up on recommendations and actions resulting from academic reviews and quality assurance processes.
- Ensure compliance with institutional policies and applicable Cambridge academic requirements.
- Contribute actively to school-wide quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives.

Safeguarding and Student Wellbeing

- Promote a safe, inclusive, respectful, and supportive learning environment.
- Comply with all school safeguarding, child protection, health, and safety policies and procedures.
- Report safeguarding concerns in accordance with established school protocols.
- Promote teaching practices that support students' academic, social, emotional, and overall wellbeing.

Qualifications





- Bachelor's degree in Education, English Language Teaching, Modern Languages, Applied Linguistics, Literature, Education, or a related field.
- Valid teaching qualification and professional credentials.
- Minimum English proficiency of C1, preferably C2 according to the CEFR or equivalent.
- Recognised qualification or certification in English language teaching.
- Cambridge training or certification is highly desirable.
- Training in assessment and curriculum development is desirable.
- Master's degree in Education, Educational Leadership, Curriculum, or a related field is desirable.

Experience

- Minimum of 5 years of experience teaching English at Secondary School level or equivalent.
- Previous experience in academic coordination or leadership of teaching teams.
- Proven experience working with Cambridge Lower Secondary and/or Cambridge IGCSE.
- Experience in curriculum planning and assessment design.
- Experience analysing academic results and developing improvement plans.
- Experience conducting classroom observations and providing teacher coaching.
- Experience working in bilingual or international schools.
- Experience with academic audits, accreditation processes, or external reviews is desirable.
