Colossal Academy | Mérida, Yucatán | Hourly Position

Colossal Academy is looking for an exceptional Science Teacher who loves helping students understand how the world works through experimentation, investigation, building and real-world problem solving.

We are a small, innovative international school in Mérida inspired by the International Baccalaureate (IB) and Reggio Emilia approaches. Our philosophy combines academic rigor with a deeply human approach to education.

We are preparing students not simply for the next grade, but for a rapidly changing world shaped by AI, technology and general challenges.

The Role

Our approach to science is applied, interdisciplinary and systemic. We want students to understand not only individual scientific concepts, but also how systems work, how different parts interact and how science connects to the real world.

This is not a worksheet-based science position.

Students should be asking questions, conducting experiments, building prototypes, observing the natural world, collecting and interpreting data, making mistakes,



improving their designs and explaining what they discover.

Learning experiences might include:
- Investigating flight and building flying machines
- Designing structures and testing their strength
- Studying ecosystems and the relationships between living things
- Exploring electricity, forces, light, sound and simple machines
- Building prototypes to solve real problems
- Conducting experiments and analyzing results
- Exploring how human actions affect natural systems
- Connecting science with mathematics, technology, robotics, engineering, art and design
- Taking learning beyond the classroom through fieldwork and interactions with experts

What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who:
- Has a strong background in science, engineering, environmental science, technology or science education
- Understands or is interested in systems thinking
- Loves experimenting, building and figuring out how thin
