Role Purpose
Support Senior Management in meeting HSBC’s regulatory and compliance obligations in relation to sanctions, by assisting with the implementation of the Group Sanctions policy in line with OFAC (US), the United Nations, the European Union and HM Treasury Financial Sanctions. The role helps protect the organisation from financial crime through the development and implementation of strategies, processes, controls and policies, and by ensuring appropriate employee training and communications are in place.
In addition, the role holder supports Sanctions CoE Senior Management to identify and contain sanctions risks, with the ability to analyse and assess risks independently and escalate where appropriate. The role manages a team of Compliance Officers responsible for reviewing and investigating alerts that could expose the bank to a sanctions breach.
Key Responsibilities
1) Sanctions risk management and compliance
Manage and coordinate Sanctions Compliance for escalated payments for HBUS, as agreed with Management.
Review new/updated sanctions requirements and Group policies; assess applicability to business areas and provide guidance to update processes and procedures.
Manage the daily review process for escalated alerts, ensuring adherence to agreed service timelines.
Provide guidance to Compliance investigators on more complex escalated alerts.
Act as the initial escalation point for team members.
Immediately escalate to Senior Management any material breach or potential regulatory or policy breach.
2) Leadership, people management and delivery
People management responsibilities: goal setting, performance management and development.
Provide direction and coaching to less experienced staff on sanctions matters.
Support and embed change initiatives within the team.
Be accountable for delivery against objectives/targets, budget and resources (volume, quality and timeliness).
3) Stakeholders, advisory and projects
