THE JOB
This is a hands-on opportunity for an Automation Engineer who wants to own the path from the machine to the cloud. You will manage the installation and commissioning of IIoT devices at our clients’ plants: assessing shopfloor equipment, connecting and configuring our in-house devices, integrating PLCs and sensors, and making sure every project’s connectivity stays healthy after go-live.
Beyond the shop floor, you will work with AI agents as part of your daily toolkit — using and configuring LLM-powered agents to accelerate diagnostics, documentation, and deployment workflows. This position is adecuado for an engineer with an automation/OT background who is comfortable with scripting and modern software tools, and who enjoys being where the action is: control cabinets, HMIs, and industrial networks.
We offer a supportive environment with experienced mentors and real impact on production operations.
BACKGROUND
Education & Technical Skills: You should have a background in Mechatronics, Electrical, Control/Automation, or a related engineering field. We’re looking for:
- Hands-on experience with PLCs and industrial equipment (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, WAGO, or similar) — reading electrical diagrams and working safely around control cabinets.
- Working knowledge of industrial communication protocols: OPC-UA, Modbus TCP/RTU, Siemens S7, EtherNet/IP, MQTT.
- Industrial networking fundamentals: IP addressing, switches, VPNs, firewalls, and remote access to devices on plant networks.
- Python scripting for data-acquisition checks, device configuration,
and automation of repetitive tasks.
- Familiarity with Linux and Docker for configuring and maintaining devices in the field.
- Experience using or configuring AI agents / LLM tools (e.g., Claude, agent frameworks) to support engineering work — or strong motivation to learn.
- Nice to have: experience with sensor instrumentation (flow, pressure, temperature), signal wiring (4-20 mA, digital I/O), and gateway/protocol-converter hardware (e.g., Moxa).
Communication: An intermediate level of English is required — you’ll read technical documentation and write installation reports in English. We value ownership, clear communication with client maintenance/OT teams, and a hands-on attitude. Availability: Willingness to travel regularly to industrial plants in Mexico for installations, commissioning, and support.
RESPONSABILITIES
- Manage IIoT device installations end to end: plan, coordinate, and execute the deployment of our in-house devices, gateways, sensors, and network hardware at client plants — including schedules, materials (BOMs), and coordination with client maintenance/OT teams.
- Perform connectivity assessments of shopfloor equipment (PLCs, HMIs, CNCs,
specialized machinery) to define how each machine will be integrated.
- Connect and configure our in-house devices: provisioning, network setup, protocol configuration, tag mapping, and validation of data quality from machine to platform.
- Integrate machines via industrial protocols (OPC-UA, Modbus, Siemens S7, EtherNet/IP, MQTT) and configure protocol converters/gateways when needed.
- Monitor and maintain project connectivity post-installation: diagnose dropouts, VPN/network issues, and data-acquisition failures, on-site or remotely.
- Use and configure AI agents to accelerate troubleshooting, generate installation documentation, and automate operational workflows.
- Write Python scripts and small tools to validate signals, test connections, and automate device configuration.
- Produce clear technical documentation: installation reports, network diagrams, tag maps, and handover material.
This role will let you grow into a reference for industrial connectivity: from assessing a machine on the shop floor to guaranteeing its data drives real-time optimization in production.
