**Colossal Academy | Mérida, Yucatán | Hourly Position**
Colossal Academy is looking for an exceptional **Preschool Teacher** who combines a deep understanding of early childhood development with curiosity, creativity, strong academics and genuine respect for young children.
We are a small, innovative international school in Mérida inspired by **Reggio Emilia and the International Baccalaureate (IB)**. Our philosophy combines **academic rigor with a deeply human approach to education**.
The Role
At Colossal, we see young children as **capable, curious and full of ideas**.
Our preschool classrooms are inspired by the **Reggio Emilia approach**: children learn through exploration, relationships, play, projects, conversation and meaningful interactions with the world around them.
The teacher's role is not simply to deliver activities. Our teachers **observe, listen, ask questions, document learning and design experiences that help children's thinking develop further.**
Children might investigate how plants grow, explore what makes objects fly, measure ingredients while cooking, build structures, create art, conduct simple experiments, tell stories or investigate questions about their community and the natural world.
Learning at Colossal
We believe preschool should build strong foundations for future academic success while protecting the **wonder, creativity and joy of childhood**.
Our program integrates:
- Early literacy and language development
- Early mathematical thinking and number sense
- Science and exploration of the natural world
- Art, music and creative expression
- Movement and physical development
- Sensory exploration
- Social-emotional development
- Play and imaginative thinking
- Cooking, gardening and practical life experiences
- Interdisciplinary projects based on children's questions and interests
What We're Looking For
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience working with young children
- Understands early childhood development
- Is interested in or experienced with **Reggio Emilia**:
- Sees children as capable thinkers rather than passive learners
- Can create beautiful, intentional and engaging learning environments
- Uses observation to understand children's development and plan next steps
- Can balance child-led exploration with intentional teaching
- Values strong early foundations in literacy and mathematics
- Encourages independence, curiosity and confidence
- Is warm, patient, energetic and deeply respectful of children
- Communicates professionally with families and colleagues
- Enjoys collaborating and developing interdisciplinary projects
Experience with **Reggio Emilia, International Baccalaureate (IB), inquiry-based learning or project-based learning** is highly valued.
The Kind of Teacher Who Thrives Here
We want a teacher who genuinely enjoys being around young children and is fascinated by how they think.
Someone who sees a child's question as the beginning of an investigation.
Someone who can provide structure without controlling every moment.
Someone who understands that **academic excellence and a joyful childhood are not opposites.**
About Colossal
Colossal is building a different kind of school for a different kind of future.
As technology and AI transform the world, we believe the deeply human capacities children develop in their earliest years become even more important**:curiosity, creativity, communication, confidence, empathy, independence and the desire to understand how things work.**
Our goal is to give children **strong academic foundations while helping them become confident, curious and deeply human learners.**
