Job Description
The Logistics Specialist is an intermediate‑level professional role responsible for independently analyzing, monitoring, and supporting logistics and transportation activities to improve efficiency, cost control, and service performance. This position applies working knowledge of logistics operations, data analysis, and supply chain principles to evaluate performance, resolve routine issues, and support decision‑making. Work is performed under moderate supervision and has a direct impact on delivery reliability, inventory flow, and logistics cost management.
Responsibilities and Duties
Logistics Data Analysis & Performance Monitoring
- Independently analyze logistics data related to shipments, freight costs, transit times, and service performance
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as on‑time delivery, carrier performance, and freight spend
- Identify trends, variances, and root causes of routine performance issues
- Provide data‑driven insights and recommendations to support operational decisions
Transportation & Distribution Support
- Support inbound and outbound transportation activities and distribution center operations
- Coordinate with carriers, warehouses, or third‑party logistics providers to resolve routine issues
- Assist with load planning, shipment tracking, and exception management
- Support carrier performance reviews and service‑level adherence
Cost Control & Financial Support
- Analyze freight invoices, transportation charges, and cost variances
- Support logistics cost tracking, budgeting, and forecasting activities
- Identify opportunities for cost optimization or efficiency improvements
- Partner with Finance to ensure accurate logistics cost reporting
Inventory Flow & Data Reconciliation
- Support tracking of inventory movement between plants, warehouses, and customers
- Reconcile shipping, receiving,
and inventory transaction data
- Identify and help resolve discrepancies related to logistics execution
- Coordinate with inventory, warehouse, or planning teams as needed
Process Compliance & Continuous Improvement
- Apply logistics procedures, transportation policies, and internal controls consistently
- Support compliance with documentation, regulatory, and audit requirements
- Identify recurring issues or process gaps and recommend improvements
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to logistics execution
Collaboration & Knowledge Development
- Work cross‑functionally with Supply Chain, Operations, Customer Service, and Finance teams
- Communicate analysis results and recommendations clearly to stakeholders
- Provide informal guidance or support to Logistics Analyst I roles as needed
- Continue developing expertise in logistics systems, tools, and best practices
Scope & Impact
- Impact is primarily at the functional or operational level through improved logistics performance and visibility
- Work is routine to moderately complex and requires analytical judgment
- Contributes directly to service reliability, cost control, and supply chain efficiency
Education, Experience and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business, Finance, Analytics, or related field required
- 3-5 years of prior experience in logistics, transportation, supply chain analysis, or operations roles preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Working knowledge of logistics and transportation processes
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and data‑interpretation skills
- Ability to evaluate trends, investigate issues, and propose solutions
- Attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with spreadsheets, reporting tools, and ERP/TMS systems preferred
