Accountant (Bookkeeper, Modesto Operations)

We're hiring a detail-oriented Accountant/Bookkeeper who understands (or can quickly learn) the financial mechanics of our mortgage brokerage efforts - commission-based revenue, lender payouts, and file-level cost tracking to keep our books clean, current, and audit-ready as we scale our Modesto, CA operations.

*This position is remote in Mexico.*

Compensation:

$10 hourly

Responsibilities:
- Maintain the general ledger and perform monthly reconciliations across operating and trust/escrow-adjacent accounts as applicable
- Track and reconcile loan commission income against closed loan files (per-file revenue tracking)
- Manage accounts payable: loan officer commission splits, vendor invoices (appraisal, credit, title, marketing), and recurring operating costs
- Reconcile wholesale lender payouts and fee disbursements against the loan pipeline
- Prepare monthly financial statements (P&L;, balance sheet, cash flow) for leadership
- Maintain compliant, audit-ready recordkeeping in line with mortgage industry recordkeeping norms




- Support annual licensing/compliance-related financial reporting requirements as needed
- Coordinate with outside CPA for quarterly estimates and annual tax filing
- Flag commission discrepancies, unpaid lender fees, or cash flow concerns proactively

Qualifications:

Must-Haves
- 3+ years of bookkeeping/accounting experience; mortgage, real estate, financial services, or commission-based industry experience
- Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks Online (or willingness to be tested on it)
- Comfortable reconciling revenue against a pipeline/CRM system rather than simple flat invoicing
- Proven written & spoken English for communication with leadership and clients (C2+ only)
- Reliable high-speed internet and a distraction-free remote work setup
