Functional Safety Software Engineer

Position Overview:
The Functional Safety Software Engineer is responsible for the development, implementation, verification, and maintenance of safety-critical embedded software for Electronic Control Modules (ECMs). This role ensures compliance with ISO 26262 Functional Safety standards and established software development processes while supporting the delivery of high-quality, reliable automotive control systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and maintain safety-related embedded software components for Electronic Control Modules (ECMs) in accordance with ISO 26262 Functional Safety requirements and software development processes.
- Translate and implement software requirements derived from Technical Safety Requirements (TSRs), ensuring complete, accurate, and traceable realization within the software architecture and design.
- Perform software verification activities, including unit testing, static code analysis, peer reviews, bench testing, and integration testing, to demonstrate compliance with safety requirements.
- Support software integration, debugging, troubleshooting, and defect resolution throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Participate in technical design, code,
and verification reviews, including Design Review Board (DRB), Test Review Board (TRB), and Release Review Board (RRB) activities, as applicable.
- Maintain end-to-end traceability between safety requirements, software design artifacts, implementation, verification results, and released software baselines.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams, including systems, software, validation, and Functional Safety stakeholders, to achieve project objectives.
- Partner effectively with global development teams across multiple locations to support project execution, technical alignment, and knowledge sharing.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to Functional Safety, software quality, and development processes.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related engineering discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in embedded software development, Functional Safety, automotive software engineering, or related engineering roles.
- Proven experience working in Functional Safety software development environments and applying ISO 26262 processes and methodologies.
- Experience developing embedded software in C for automotive Electronic Control Units (ECUs) or similar real-time embedded systems.
- Working knowledge of ISO 26262 Functional Safety, with emphasis on software development activities defined in Part 6.
- Familiarity with AUTOSAR architecture and concepts, including integration of safety-related software components.
- Familiarity with AUTOSAR related toolchain (Vector Davinci, Elektrobit, etc.)
- Strong understanding of embedded software architecture, software design principles, and software development lifecycle methodologies.
- Experience with software verification techniques, including unit testing, static code analysis, integration testing, bench testing, and peer reviews.
- Experience using requirements management, traceability, and configuration management tools.
- Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across general and cross-functional engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Functional Safety ISO26262 certification
- Experience with ASPICE-compliant software development processes and assessments.
- Knowledge of PREEvision and other automotive software development and systems engineering tools.
- Experience supporting safety-critical software development within automotive, commercial vehicle, off-highway, or related industries.
- Experience with safety analysis methodologies such as FMEA, DFA, FTA, or software safety analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a global engineering environment and manage multiple technical priorities.
- Experience leading technical reviews, mentoring engineers, or driving Functional Safety best practices across projects.
