The U.S. Mission in Mexico is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the Consular Agent in the Consular office.

**Duties**:
The Consular Agent is responsible for providing routine and emergency consular services as authorized by 22 USC Section 3943 (Section 303 of the Foreign Service Act of 1980) and the U.S. Department of State regulations in Title 22, Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 71.1 and 71.6. The Consular Agent is under the direct supervision of the U.S. Consulate in Merida, Mexico, reporting to the American Citizen Services Chief. The incumbent receives an annual performance evaluation rated by the American Citizen Services Chief and reviewed by the Consular Section Chief.

At least two years’ experience in customer service or two years’ experience in U.S. government service.**Language**

Language Testing (If Applicable)** If you meet the Education and Experience requirements and do not submit an English /Spanish language test score (submission is optional), you will be scheduled for English language testing as part of the recruitment process. - Good working knowledge level scores are valid for up to (5) five years from the test date.

The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer.
The Consular Agent will be a paid a salary according to the pay plan and grade of the position, as established by the Department of State. The salary is based on a minimum determined number of hours each biweekly pay period, whether the Consular Agent worked more or fewer hours.
Any additional benefits the Consular Agent received (e.g. limited reimbursement for health insurance) are determined by the Department of State's Bureau of Consular Affairs.

2. Current employees of the Mission who have not successfully completed their initial probationary periods are not eligible to apply. Current employees of the Mission who have less than 1 year in their current position are not eligible to apply. Current employees with an Overall Summary Rating of Needs Improvement or Unsatisfactory or MBC score of 100 points or less, on their most recent Employee Performance Report (EPR) are not eligible to apply.
