Pet Insurance The Product Development Manager – Monterrey is responsible for establishing and leading the Product Development function at the Monterrey manufacturing facility. This role serves as the critical cross-functional link between Product Development (locally & globally) and Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain locally in Monterrey to ensure products are designed, industrialized, and sustained with best practice product engineering, manufacturability, quality, cost, and customer needs in mind.
The Product Development
Manager will build and develop local product engineering capabilities. The role is responsible for developing a high-performing team that provides product development support throughout the product lifecycle, from new product development, continuous product improvement and product sunsetting. The role is responsible for product development facility needs, makerspace, prototype workshop, and testing area.
The role is responsible for tools and equipment needed as part of product development. The role will also function as the local Material Specialist advising on material issues and leading material development for cost, quality and sustainability improvements. This position combines technical leadership, people leadership, and cross-functional influence to strengthen Monterrey's contribution to global product development efforts.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
Product Development Leadership
Lead the development of a Monterrey-based Product Development organization.
Establish local engineering capabilities that complement integral Product Development teams.
Ensure product designs incorporate manufacturing, quality, and supply chain requirements early in the development process.
Drive Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and Design for Quality (DFQ) practices.
Materials & Process Innovation
Develop and maintain expertise in materials, manufacturing processes, and production technologies.
Lead material qualification, testing, validation, and implementation activities.
Drive identification and evaluation of alternative materials to improve quality, performance, sustainability, supply continuity, and cost.
Support material-related root cause investigations and product improvement initiatives.
Manufacturing Integration
Provide engineering leadership during product transfers, scale-ups, and industrialization projects.
Ensure strong collaboration between Product Development and Manufacturing teams.
Support production teams in resolving complex product and process issues.
Improve feedback loops between production and development organizations.
Team Development
Recruit, develop, mentor, and retain engineering talent.
Build local competencies in: CAD and design tools

DFM/DFA principles
Foster a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Product Lifecycle Ownership
Support sustaining engineering activities throughout the product lifecycle.
Lead engineering investigations related to field issues, quality concerns, and product improvements.
Ensure design changes are properly documented, validated, and implemented.
Support product obsolescence planning and component lifecycle management.
Cross-Functional Leadership
Serve as the primary Monterrey Product Development representative across multiple functions.
Influence decisions through technical expertise and business judgment.
Drive alignment between Product Development, Manufacturing, Quality, Procurement, and Operations.
Escalate and resolve technical issues in a timely manner. RESPONSIBILITIES
Product Development
Lead local product development and sustaining engineering activities.
Coordinate design activities with global development teams.
Participate in design reviews and change control processes.
Ensure engineering work complies with applicable design controls and procedures.
Support concept evaluation, prototyping, testing, and verification activities.
Materials Engineering
Lead material selection and qualification efforts.
Develop laboratory and testing capabilities as needed.
Evaluate new polymers, elastomers, foams, adhesives, silicones, coatings, and manufacturing materials.
Support supplier qualification and material performance assessments.
Manufacturing Support
Provide technical leadership for manufacturing-related engineering challenges.
Support root cause analysis and corrective action activities.
Participate in production improvement initiatives.
Drive manufacturability improvements through design changes and process optimization.
Team Leadership
Establish team goals, priorities, and development plans.
Conduct performance reviews and coaching discussions.
Build competency roadmaps for team members.
Foster collaboration with engineering teams across global sites.
Project Leadership
Support New Product Introduction (NPI) programs.
Manage engineering resources and priorities.
Ensure timely execution of engineering deliverables.
Track risks, actions, and project dependencies.

Experience with Design for Manufacturing/Assembly (DFM/DFA).
Familiarity with product lifecycle management principles.

Experience with multidisciplinary hardware product development Materials Engineering
Strong understanding of polymers, elastomers, silicones, foams, and related manufacturing materials.
Experience with material qualification and validation.
Knowledge of material compatibility, durability testing, and failure analysis.
Experience working with suppliers and external laboratories.

Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical/Electronic, Mechatronic, or Materials Engineering.
Master's degree preferred.
7+ years of experience in product development.
Experience working in medical devices, healthcare products, industrial products, or regulated industries preferred.
Demonstrated experience leading technical projects and cross-functional teams.
Experience working directly with manufacturing operations.
Fluent in Spanish and proficient in English.
