**Project Summary**:
For the Protection of Human Rights Defenders and Journalists (PDP) is a program of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). PDP aims to contribute to improving the institutional and operational capacity of governmental and non-governmental actors involved in the protection of human rights defenders and journalists. Through this program, it is intended to support the generation of a safer civic space for the exercise of freedom of expression and the defense of rights. PDP will work through August 2026 and engages with counterparts and allies at the federal and state levels.

**Position Summary**:
The Media and University Networks Consultant will provide expertise in journalism and human rights defense to support the sustainability of independent media and promote freedom of expression in Mexico. This role will focus on helping media outlets diversify their funding and improve their use of social media. The Consultant will also develop initiatives that connect universities in a network supporting press freedom and document the impact of journalism on Mexico's democracy. The Consultant will work within strengthening of independent media, integration of universities into the freedom of expression network, and content generation.
**Responsibilities**:
- Develop a work plan including training on fundraising, content monetization, and social media use.
- Facilitate experience exchanges between national and international independent media.
- Create a strategy for linking universities in promoting freedom of expression and human rights.
- Organize workshops and forums to involve students and academics.
- Document the impact of journalism and human rights defense in Mexico using creative formats.

Por la Protección de Personas Defensoras y Periodistas (PDP) es un programa de la Agencia de los Estados Unidos para el Desarrollo Internacional (USAID). **Resumen del Cargo**:
**Responsabilidades**:
- Desarrollar un plan de trabajo que incluya capacitación sobre recaudación de fondos, monetización de contenido y uso de redes sociales.
- Facilitar intercambios de experiências entre medios independientes nacionales e internacionales.
- Crear una estrategia para vincular a las universidades en la promoción de la libertad de expresión y los derechos humanos.
- Organizar talleres y foros para involucrar a estudiantes y académicos.




- Documentar el impacto del periodismo y la defensa de los derechos humanos en México utilizando formatos creatives.
- Resaltar la historia de una persona defensora de los derechos humanos.
**Qualifications**:
- Bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism, business, international relations, or related social sciences required.
- Minimum five years of experience in project management, working with media actors, networks, and/or independent journalists required.
- Experience in fundraising and crowdfunding, seeking financing or similar activities required.
- Fluency in Spanish required.
