Job Description Summary
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field with 5 years of experience in the position. We are looking for a Tool Setter Sr. Engineer to lead the tooling management strategy for our high-volume automotive machining operations. This position is responsible for ensuring tooling availability, optimizing tooling costs, improving tool life, and leading technical personnel while meeting operational, quality, and financial objectives.
Job Description:
- Lead and coordinate the Tool Setter/Tool Crib technical team to ensure safe, efficient, and standardized operations.
- Manage a monthly tooling budget, maintaining strict cost control and achieving Budget and Forecast targets.
- Develop, prepare, and monitor the annual Budget and monthly Forecast for direct and indirect tooling expenses.
- Drive continuous cost reduction initiatives, delivering annual savings of more than USD $600,000 through tooling optimization and process improvements.
- Develop and maintain PFET (Plan for Every Tool) to maximize the service life of cutting tools, inserts, holders, centers, and other machining tooling.
- Monitor and improve CPU (Cost per Unit) performance by implementing effective tooling management strategies and administrative controls.
- Analyze tooling consumption, tool wear, tooling failures, and process capability to identify improvement opportunities that enhance tool life, reduce costs, and improve manufacturing performance.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering, Production, Quality, Maintenance, Purchasing, and suppliers to ensure tooling availability and process stability.
- Lead tooling trials, validation of new cutting technologies, supplier evaluations, and implementation of best manufacturing practices.
- Establish and monitor KPIs related to tooling cost, tool life, inventory, downtime, and productivity.
