**The Role**:
As a Functional Safety Systems Integration Engineer, you hold technical responsibility for functional safety (FuSa) engineering at the system level in automotive system-component development projects.
You plan and oversee all FuSa-related systems engineering activities — with a focus on the concept phase and product development at system level (ISO ***** parts 3 and 4) — acting as a technical leader and expert accountable for resolving complex safety issues.
**What You'll Do (Impact Areas)**:
- Own system-level FuSa engineering: be responsible for system-level functional safety systems engineering in low-voltage battery system development projects, focused on the concept phase and product development at system level (ISO ***** parts 3 and 4), ensuring ISO ***** compliance across all engineering activities.
- Plan & oversee FuSa activities: plan and provide oversight for all functional-safety-related systems engineering activities.
- Lead safety analyses: lead and conduct Hazard and Risk Assessments (HARA), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA).
- Develop safety concepts & requirements: develop the functional safety concept and functional safety requirements, and the technical safety concept and technical safety requirements.
- Engage OEM customers: contribute to functional safety topics in communications and meetings with automotive OEM customers, manage interfaces with other departments, and present project results.
- Collaborate & assure compliance: partner with cross-functional engineering teams, participate in safety audits and assessments,
and stay up to date with industry trends and advancements in functional safety and automotive technologies.
**What Success Looks Like**:
- System-level FuSa engineering planned and executed in full compliance with ISO ***** (parts 3 and 4).
- HARA, FMEA, and FTA led to completion with clear, actionable safety findings.
- Robust functional and technical safety concepts and requirements delivered.
- Confident, credible representation of functional safety topics with OEM customers.
- Sustained compliance demonstrated through safety audits and assessments.
**Core Competencies**:
- Solid expert knowledge of automotive functional safety; accountable for solving complex technical issues.
- Technical leadership in functional safety development.
- Command of ISO ***** (especially parts 3 and 4) and FuSa analysis methods (FTA, FMEA, FMEDA, DFA).
- Planning and oversight of system-level functional safety engineering activities.
- Strong communication, including OEM-customer-facing engagement and cross-department interface management.
**What You Bring (Qualifications)**:
**Required**
- Degree obtained through an up-to-four-year university program (Bachelor, Diplom) at a university or university of applied sciences in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering,
or related fields.
- 5+ years of experience in functional safety engineering within the automotive industry — preferably at a tier 1 supplier on battery management system projects.
- Expert knowledge of functional safety analysis methods (FTA, FMEA, FMEDA, DFA) and experience with FuSa engineering tools (e.g., Ansys medini analyze, Isograph Reliability Workbench).
- Proven experience conducting safety analyses and developing safety requirements and concepts.
- Profound background in automotive embedded electronics and software.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
**Preferred (a plus)**
- Certification in functional safety (e.g., TÜV Functional Safety Engineer).
- Experience with Systems Engineering for safety-critical systems (certification a plus, e.g., INCOSE CSEP).
