Overview
We’re recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced Active Directory Operations Engineer to support and maintain a large-scale enterprise identity infrastructure. This is a hands-on operations role focused on Active Directory administration, hybrid identity, authentication services, automation, and operational support. You'll work closely with infrastructure and security teams to ensure a secure, highly available identity platform.
? What you'll own
- Manage the day-to-day operation and administration of the Active Directory environment.
- Administer users, groups, computers, organisational units, and Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS).
- Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Group Policy Objects (GPOs).
- Monitor and resolve issues relating to domain controllers, replication, authentication, and directory services.
- Support Windows Server, DNS, DHCP, and other core identity infrastructure services.
- Troubleshoot login failures, account lockouts, authentication, and access-related incidents.
- Perform routine health checks, monitoring, maintenance, and capacity planning.
- Maintain security policies, password policies, and access controls across the identity environment.
- Develop PowerShell scripts to automate administrative and operational tasks.
- Support Incident, Problem, Change, and Capacity Management processes using ITSM best practices.
- Produce technical documentation,
operational procedures, and knowledge base articles.
? What you'll bring
- Strong hands-on experience administering Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) .
- Experience supporting Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD) and hybrid identity environments.
- Strong understanding of authentication and federation technologies including Kerberos, LDAP, AD FS, SAML, OAuth 2.0, and OpenID Connect .
- Experience managing Group Policy , DNS , DHCP , domain trusts, and Active Directory replication.
- Strong PowerShell scripting and automation experience.
- Familiarity with Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) , Conditional Access , and identity governance concepts.
- Experience working within ITIL-based operational environments using ITSM platforms such as ServiceNow or Jira.
- Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Comfortable working within large, cross-functional, matrix organisations.
? Nice-to-have
- Experience with Azure infrastructure and Microsoft cloud services.
- Knowledge of Privileged Access Management (PAM) solutions.
- Experience supporting enterprise identity transformation or cloud migration projects.
- Microsoft certifications relating to Active Directory, Azure, or Identity & Access Management.

- High availability and stability of Active Directory and hybrid identity services.
- Timely resolution of incidents while meeting agreed SLA and KPI targets.
- Increased automation through PowerShell and operational improvements.
- Secure identity platform with compliant access controls and authentication policies.
