We are seeking a Payroll Specialist with strong expertise in U. S. payroll practices to help build a world‑class payroll product at Runa. In this role you will translate complex payroll regulations and industry practices into clear, actionable examples for product and engineering teams, and collaborate with the Customer team to diagnose payroll issues and deliver effective solutions.

Responsibilities Ensure Runa remains fully compliant with all federal, state, and local U. S. payroll regulations, staying current with legislative and regulatory updates (e.g., FLSA, federal/state tax changes) and defining requirements for product updates. Work closely with the Product team to scope requirements for U. S. payroll processes, including payroll calculations, payroll workflows, and federal/state/local tax registrations and payments. Evaluate the impact that adjustments to payroll calculation methodologies may have on end‑to‑end payroll processing. Stay informed about payroll trends, regulatory reforms, and industry standards to support Runa’s competitive advantage in the U. S. market. Develop payroll calculators, simulators, and example scenarios for internal teams as needed. Support the Customer team on technical client requests that require specialized payroll expertise. Participate in payroll reviews and calculations involving special payments such as bonuses, severance, retroactive adjustments, supplemental wages, and year‑end processes (e.g., W-2 adjustments). Partner with the Marketing team on content creation related to U. S.



payroll topics, including participating in webinars or educational initiatives. Collaborate with cross‑functional teams—especially HR—to provide company‑wide training on U. S. payroll concepts, processes, and compliance. Qualifications 3+ years of U. S. payroll experience. Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred. Strong knowledge of federal and state payroll laws and regulations, including FLSA, IRS requirements, and state/local taxation. Familiarity with payroll‑related agencies and systems (IRS, state revenue departments, state unemployment agencies, EFTPS, etc.). Experience with advanced payroll calculations such as supplemental wages, overtime, garnishments, severance, and year‑end adjustments. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining exceptional attention to detail. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; able to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders. Proven ability to coordinate with multiple departments simultaneously. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Strong organizational and time‑management skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace applications. Self‑motivated and able to thrive in a fast‑paced, results‑driven environment.
