Lead Controller – Financial Reporting, Close & Audit

Are you a seasoned accounting leader with deep expertise in financial reporting, close processes, and audit management within publicly traded companies? At Relay Human Cloud , we're looking for an exceptional Lead Controller to play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of our financial reporting.

This is a high-impact leadership position working closely with the Chief Financial Officer , leading the financial close process, consolidated reporting, audit coordination, and continuous improvement of accounting controls and processes.

What You'll Do

Financial Close & Consolidation

- Lead and manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process across multiple entities and business units.
- Review journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, consolidations, and intercompany eliminations.
- Ensure balance sheet accounts are accurate, fully supported, and audit-ready.
- Identify and resolve accounting discrepancies, unusual balances, and reporting issues.
- Maintain a disciplined and efficient close process, including close documentation and audit-ready workpapers.

Financial Reporting

- Prepare and review consolidated financial statements, including:
- Balance Sheet
- Income Statement
- Cash Flow Statement
- Develop monthly management reporting packages and variance analyses.
- Monitor financial trends, margin fluctuations, and reporting inconsistencies.
- Support quarterly and annual SEC reporting, including disclosures and XBRL tie-outs.

Technical Accounting

- Research and analyze complex U.S. GAAP matters.
- Prepare technical accounting memorandums and supporting analyses.
- Assist with revenue recognition, leases, stock-based compensation, acquisitions, impairments, contingencies,



and other complex transactions.
- Support implementation of new accounting standards and policy updates.

Audit & Compliance

- Serve as the primary coordinator for annual audits and quarterly reviews.
- Manage auditor requests and ensure timely delivery of high-quality support.
- Review audit schedules and documentation before submission.
- Track audit findings, recommendations, and remediation efforts.
- Escalate accounting and reporting risks when necessary.

Internal Controls & Team Leadership

- Strengthen close and reporting controls while maintaining strong documentation standards.
- Oversee accounting team members and external resources.
- Drive process improvements, cross-functional collaboration, and operational excellence.
- Promote accountability, quality, and continuous improvement across accounting operations.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field.
- CPA, Chartered Accountant, ACCA, or equivalent professional certification.
- 10+ years of progressive accounting and financial reporting experience.
- Previous experience as:
- Controller
- Assistant Controller
- Financial Reporting Director
- Audit Manager
- Similar accounting leadership role
- Experience supporting U.S. public companies and SEC reporting requirements.
- Strong knowledge of:
- U.S. GAAP
- Consolidated financial statements




- Multi-entity accounting
- Intercompany eliminations
- Forms 10-Q and 10-K
- Experience working with external auditors in a PCAOB environment.
- Advanced Excel skills and strong ERP/financial reporting systems expertise.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to lead and review accounting teams.
- Ability to provide recurring work-hour overlap with U.S. Central Time, with additional flexibility during close and reporting periods.

Preferred Qualifications

- Public accounting experience with a national or regional accounting firm.
- Experience in:
- Distribution
- Foodservice
- Retail
- E-commerce
- Logistics
- Related high-volume industries
- Experience resolving audit findings, significant deficiencies, or internal control challenges.
- Proven track record improving close processes, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiency.
- Experience implementing or optimizing ERP systems, consolidation tools, or financial reporting platforms.
- Exposure to acquisitions, divestitures, restructurings, and other complex corporate transactions.
