ISP Upper School Spanish Teacher Role Profile
Purpose of Role
The Upper School Spanish Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging and effective Spanish language instruction to students in grades 9-12. The role aims to develop students’ proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing, while fostering an appreciation for Hispanic cultures. Through a dynamic and student-centered approach, the teacher supports language acquisition and intercultural competence, preparing students to communicate confidently in real-world contexts.

Key Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality Spanish lessons aligned with the school’s language curriculum and standards.
- Promote the development of communicative competence in all four language skills (speaking, listening, reading, and writing).
- Incorporate authentic cultural materials and experiences to enrich language instruction.
- Design and implement varied assessments to monitor and support student progress.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs and learning styles of students.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment.




- Integrate technology and digital tools to enhance language learning.
- Provide timely and constructive feedback to students and maintain accurate records of performance.
- Communicate effectively with parents, colleagues, and school leadership about student learning and classroom activities.
- Participate in school-wide events, language department meetings, and professional development opportunities.
- Encourage students to engage in extracurricular activities related to language and culture, such as language clubs, exchanges, or cultural celebrations.

**Skills**:
- Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish
- Strong command of language acquisition pedagogy and strategies
- Effective classroom management and student engagement techniques
- Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills
- Creative and resourceful in lesson planning and instruction
- Ability to integrate technology into language teaching
- Collaborative and team-oriented mindset
- Commitment to continuous professional development
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish, Language Education, or a related field - required
- Teaching certification/license - required
- Master’s Degree - preferred
- Training or experience with international curricula (e.g., IB, AP) - desirable
- Proficiency in English - required
- Minimum 2-3 years of teaching Spanish at the secondary or upper school level
- Experience in a bilingual, international, or multicultural school setting - preferred
- Experience designing student-centered, project-based learning activities
- Familiarity with CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) or ACTFL standards - a plus
