**Description**
This position uses network wide experience to control the traffic of trains and track teams through the existing systems according to the guidelines established in the Rules of Procedure for Transport trains this way the trains can arrive to their destination safely and without delay. This position has the knowledge and experience to work across any console to fully support the KCS network in Mexico. This role uses computers and radio communications to control the safe movement of trains throughout the Company’s network. Not unlike an air traffic controller, Train dispatchers constantly monitor train movement and conditions affecting their movement, taking immediate action when necessary. A computer aided dispatching system assist dispatchers in safely and efficiently routing trains.
**Accountabilities**
- Directs and coordinate railroad traffic, issue permits and authorities, monitor all rail movements and maintain computerized records of all activities.
- Knows all territories within assigned country and keeps informed of changes in the physical characteristics or changes in train orders and schedules. Maintains familiarity with scheduled runs, destinations, times of arrivals and departures.
- Communicates with personnel on weather or any environmental conditions affecting train movement, and reroute, stop or change speed of trains.
- Monitors computerized train control panels that indicate location of trains by lights.
- Reports alleged violations of operating rules and any irregularity relating to the movement of trains.
- Plans in advance for smooth and effective movement of priority trains, trains containing hazardous material or restricted shipments, and meets/passes to avoid unnecessary delays.
- Coordinates track usage with Engineering Department personnel.




- Delivers information to Terminal Supervisors and subterminals about the arrival of trains.
- Understands the relevant business metrics and applies effective tactics to sustain a culture of operational effectiveness that produces teams of high performing, engaged and empowered operational leaders.
- Identifies when a rule/regulation/policy has been violated and has one-on-one accountability conversations with an individual who has not met expectations, using KCS Candor, Aligning the Stars & KCS ABC's, and have the individual produce better results.

**Required**
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Minimum five (5) years of relevant operations experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Specialist knowledge of one or more disciplines of railroad operations
- GCOR Qualified
**Preferred**
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Prior supervisory experience, transportation industry (especially railroad), military or air traffic controller experience
- Management Control System (MCS) and Train Management Dispatch System (TMDS) experience
- Understand the operations roles, responsibilities and key processes of diverse KCSM areas.
- A working knowledge of various department roles and responsibilities.
- An understanding of the relationships between various departments to achieve company goals.

- Flexibility to work various shifts / hours, including weekends and holidays.
- Shift work is an essential function of this job. Employees must have the ability and willingness to support critically important railroad operations 24 hours per day/7 days per week, working various shifts as assigned. Schedule assignments may include after-hours, weekends and holidays.
