The Commodity Buyer is responsible for developing and implementing regional and integral purchasing strategies for assigned commodities, ensuring competitive pricing, supplier management, and achievement of cost-saving objectives. This role requires strong negotiation skills, industry expertise, and a strategic vision to optimize costs and secure supply continuity.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct annual price negotiations with relevant suppliers to meet or exceed budget savings/PPV targets.
- Secure the most competitive prices in the global supply market for assigned commodities.
- Develop a comprehensive regional and global commodity purchasing strategy (3-5 year outlook) aligned with corporate and PBU strategies.
- Lead the global implementation of commodity strategies, including regional action plans.
- Collaborate closely with Supplier Quality to monitor and resolve supplier PPM issues.
- Initiate and/or support VAVE projects for cost reduction initiatives.
- Manage the full supplier lifecycle: from onboarding new suppliers to phase-out, compiling market intelligence, identifying risks and opportunities, and ensuring data transparency.
- Experience in the automotive/manufacturing industry.
- 3-5 years of experience as a Commodity Buyer.
- 2-3 years of experience in global commodity management within the automotive sector.
- Hands-on experience with commodities such as plastics, stampings, and textiles.
- Fluent English communication skills (written and spoken).
- Advanced Excel proficiency for data analysis and reporting.
- Strong negotiation and supplier relationship management skills.
