Job Title: Production Supervisor

Overview:
As a Production Supervisor at Julian Electric, you will be responsible for leading the daily activities of an assigned shift or production area and ensuring the production plan is executed safely, on time, and according to quality and productivity requirements.

You will directly supervise team leaders and operators while coordinating with Quality, Engineering, Materials, Maintenance, Training, and Human Resources to maintain stable production flow.

As a Production Supervisor, you will report directly to the Production Manager.

To be a successful Production Supervisor at Julian Electric, you must be highly present on the production floor, understand actual process conditions, and respond with urgency when safety, quality, delivery, or productivity is at risk. You will need to set clear expectations, monitor performance hour by hour, correct deviations, and escalat

Responsibilities:

1. Safety:

a. Promote a strong safety culture and ensure employees follow all safety procedures, rules, and required personal protective equipment.

b. Conduct daily safety reviews and correct unsafe conditions or behaviors immediately.

c. Support EHS incident investigations, complete assigned corrective actions, and communicate lessons learned to the shift.

1. Shift Production Plan Execution:

a. Review the production schedule and shift priorities, then assign labor and resources to meet customer demand and shipment requirements.

b. Track hourly output against target and implement immediate recovery actions when production falls behind plan.

c. Coordinate priorities, labor, equipment, and materials to maintain continuous production flow throughout the shift.

1. Floor Leadership and Accountability:

a. Conduct start‑of‑shift meetings to communicate safety topics, production goals, quality alerts, staffing, and operating priorities.

b. Maintain continuous floor presence and ensure team leaders and operators understand their assignments and performance expectations.

1. Productivity and Efficiency:

a. Meet shift targets for output, labor efficiency, productivity, utilization, and schedule attainment.

b. Reduce downtime, waiting, rework, unnecessary movement, and other losses that affect production performance.

1. Quality at the Source:

a. Verify that operators follow work instructions, control plans, quality alerts, inspection requirements, and approved process parameters.

b. Stop and contain nonconforming production immediately, protect traceability, and coordinate disposition and corrective action with Quality.

1. Workforce and Attendance Management:

a. Verify attendance at the beginning of the shift and assign qualified operators according to production demand and line requirements.

b. Address attendance, performance, conduct, and discipline issues consistently in coordination with the Production Manager and Human Resources.

1. Standard Work and Process Discipline:

a. Ensure production is performed according to approved standard work, work instructions, and documented process controls.

b. Perform routine floor audits and correct deviations before they affect safety, quality, delivery, or productivity.

1. Material Flow and WIP Control:

a. Coordinate with Materials and Warehouse personnel to ensure the correct components are available at the required line and time.

b. Control work‑in‑process inventory, prevent shortages or excess accumulation, and escalated material discrepancies early.

1. Equipment and Tooling Readiness:

a.



Verify that machines, applicators, tools, fixtures, boards, and testers are available and ready to support the shift plan.

b. Coordinate with Maintenance and Engineering for rapid downtime response, proper escalation, and completion of follow‑up actions.

1. Line Balancing and Labor Allocation:

a. Rebalance operators and work assignments based on hourly performance, standard times, takt time, product mix, and changing priorities.

1. Key Performance Indicators:

a. Monitor shift KPIs, including safety, quality, output, efficiency, downtime, scrap, rework, attendance, and schedule attainment.

b. Ensure production counts, downtime reasons, labor hours, scrap, and other operating data are recorded accurately and on time.

c. Review performance gaps with the team, assign actions, and verify completion before closing the shift.

1. Continuous Improvement:

a. Support Lean Manufacturing, 5S, standard work, and waste reduction activities within the assigned production area.

b. Engage team leaders and operators in identifying practical improvements and sustaining implemented changes.

1. Problem Solving and Escalation:

a. Apply structured problem‑solving tools to contain issues, identify likely causes, and support permanent corrective actions.

b. Escalate risks early with clear facts, operational impact, containment status, required support, and estimated recovery timing.

1. New Product Introduction:

a. Execute production launch plans, including staffing, training, equipment, tooling, documentation, material, and first‑piece readiness.

b. Provide timely floor feedback to Engineering, Quality, Materials, and the Production Manager until the new process is stable.

1. Engineering Changes:

a. Ensure approved engineering changes are communicated, trained, and implemented correctly at the defined effective point.

b. Prevent mixed or obsolete production by verifying material segregation, document revisions, operator understanding, and first‑piece compliance.

1. Training and Development:

a. Confirm that operators and team leaders are trained and qualified before assigning them to work independently.

b. Coach team leaders and operators through direct feedback, performance follow‑up, cross‑training, and development plans.

1. Shift Coordination:

a. Complete an effective shift handoff covering production status, quality issues, shortages, downtime, staffing, open actions, and priorities.

b. Ensure unresolved issues are transferred with a clear owner, due time, and required next action.

1. Team Leadership:

a. Lead, motivate, and hold accountable team leaders and operators within the assigned shift or production area.

b. Set clear expectations, reinforce urgency and discipline, recognize strong performance, and address gaps consistently.

c. Foster a respectful, collaborative, and results‑oriented work environment.

1. 5S and Workplace Organization:

a. Maintain clean, organized, and visually controlled production areas and ensure 5S standards are sustained throughout the shift.

b. Ensure compliance with IATF 16949, ISO 14001, customer‑specific requirements, standard operating procedures, and company policies.

c.



Keep the assigned area audit‑ready and support internal, customer, and certification audits.

1. Reporting and Communication:

a. Report shift performance, risks, open issues, and recovery actions accurately and promptly to the Production Manager.

b. Communicate effectively with cross‑functional teams so priorities, responsibilities, and required timing are clearly understood.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Education:

- Bachelor's degree in industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering, operations management, business administration, or a related discipline is preferred; equivalent manufacturing leadership experience will be considered.
- Training in frontline supervision, Lean Manufacturing, safety, or structured problem solving is highly desirable.

Experience:

- Minimum of 3 years of manufacturing experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory, team leader, or frontline leadership role.
- Experience in high‑mix manufacturing operations; automotive wire harness or battery cable experience is strongly preferred.

Certifications:

- Relevant certifications, such as Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt or Green Belt, safety training, or equivalent supervisory training, are a plus.

Additional Requirements:

- Availability to work the assigned shift and adjust schedules as required by production needs, including overtime or weekends.
- Ability to communicate effectively in Spanish; working proficiency in English is preferred.

9. Communication: They communicate expectations, risks, priorities, and recovery plans clearly across employees, shifts, and support teams.
10. Adaptability: They adjust labor, priorities, and resources effectively in a fast‑changing, high‑mix manufacturing environment.
11. Accountability: They establish ownership, timing, and follow‑up routines and ensure assigned actions are completed.
12. Technical Proficiency: They understand manufacturing processes, equipment, tooling, work instructions, and production controls.
13. Team Development: They coach team leaders and operators, strengthen cross‑training, and build capability within the shift.
14. Detail‑Oriented: They recognize small process deviations before those deviations become larger safety, quality, or delivery problems.
15. Customer Focus: They align daily shift decisions with on‑time delivery, product quality, traceability, and customer requirements.
