Overview: A Process Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for optimizing and enhancing manufacturing processes to ensure efficient production, quality output, and cost-effectiveness. This role plays a crucial part in the manufacturing industry by identifying areas for improvement and implementing innovative solutions to streamline operations.
As a Process Engineer you will report to Engineering Manager
To be a successful Process Engineer, you need a strong technical foundation, analytical and problem-solving skills, a commitment to continuous improvement, the ability to collaborate cross-functionally, project management proficiency, a focus on quality and safety, effective communication, and a mindset to maximize efficiency by distinguishing between value-added and non-value-added activities.
Responsibilities:
1. Process Improvement:
a. Collaborate with production teams to conduct in-depth analyses of manufacturing processes, identifying areas of improvement and opportunities for optimization.
b. Implement engineering changes to existing processes, ensuring smooth transitions and minimal disruption to production.
c. Continuously monitor process performance, seeking ways to improve productivity, reduce waste, and enhance product quality.
d. Differentiate between value-added and non-value-added activities, working to minimize the latter to increase process efficiency.
2. Design and Development:
a. Lead the design and development of new manufacturing processes, including researching and selecting appropriate equipment, materials, and technologies.
b. Utilize computer-aided design (CAD) and simulation tools to create comprehensive process designs and workflow layouts.
c. Ensure that all process designs meet safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
d. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to introduce new processes into the production environment seamlessly.
3. Quality Assurance:
a. Establish and enforce strict quality control procedures, including regular inspections and audits to monitor product quality.
b. Develop and implement process control plans, statistical process control (SPC) systems, and other quality management tools to reduce defects and non-conformance.
c. Collaborate with quality control and assurance teams to resolve and prevent quality issues, implementing corrective and preventive actions.
d. Work on scrap reduction initiatives, minimizing material waste and improving overall production efficiency.
4. Tooling Management and Maintenance:
a. Maintain a comprehensive inventory of tools and equipment, tracking usage, condition, and calibration schedules.
b. Develop a tooling maintenance plan to ensure that tools remain in optimal working condition.

Collaborate with tooling suppliers to source replacements or upgrades as needed.
d. Focus on tooling improvements and cost reduction strategies, seeking efficient and cost-effective tooling solutions.
5. Equipment Installation and Maintenance:
a. Oversee the installation, commissioning, and calibration of new manufacturing equipment, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards.
b. Develop preventative maintenance schedules and procedures, coordinating with maintenance teams to minimize equipment downtime.
c. Troubleshoot equipment issues, coordinating repairs and minimizing production disruptions.
6. New Equipment Release:
a. Participate in the evaluation and selection of new manufacturing equipment, ensuring it aligns with production goals and cost-effectiveness.
b. Develop comprehensive protocols and training materials for equipment operation, maintenance, and safety.
c. Collaborate with production teams to smoothly integrate new equipment into existing workflows.
7. Productivity and Efficiency:
a. Implement productivity improvement initiatives such as value stream mapping, Kaizen events, and cycle time reduction projects.
b. Utilize tools like Yamazumi to analyze process flow, identify bottlenecks, and streamline workflows for maximum efficiency.
c. Work closely with production teams to gather feedback and implement changes that boost productivity.
8. Risk Assessment and Safety:
a. Conduct comprehensive risk assessments for manufacturing processes, identifying potential hazards, and mitigating strategies.
b. Ensure strict compliance with safety regulations, promoting a culture of safety awareness among all team members.
c. Continuously evaluate and enhance safety protocols and training programs.
9. Project Management:
a. Manage process improvement projects from inception to completion, including project planning, budgeting, resource allocation, and reporting.
b. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, vendors, and contractors to ensure project objectives are met within the designated timeframes and budgets.
c. Provide regular updates to management and stakeholders on project progress and outcomes.
10. Process Optimization:
a. Data Analysis: Analyze data from various sources, including production metrics, machine sensors, and quality control reports, to pinpoint inefficiencies and areas for improvement.
b. Continuous Improvement: Implement lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma methodologies,
and process control tools to streamline operations, reduce waste, and enhance productivity.
c. Root Cause Analysis: Investigate production issues, identify root causes, and develop corrective and preventive actions to prevent process deviations.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor's degree in engineering, preferably in a field such as mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, or related discipline.
· Proven experience in process engineering or manufacturing, preferably in a relevant industry.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
· Proficiency in using engineering software, data analysis tools, and project management software.
· Knowledge of quality control and regulatory requirements.
· Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
· Project management experience is a plus.
Hard Skills:
· Engineering Skills: Proficiency in engineering principles related to the specific industry, such as mechanical, chemical, or industrial engineering.
· Process Design: Ability to design and optimize manufacturing processes, including knowledge of CAD and simulation software.
