SQA Automation Engineer Lead
Scope and Purpose of Position
The SQA Automation Engineer Lead is responsible for defining QA automation strategy, planning, and execution in alignment with enterprise business and IT goals. This role works closely with key stakeholders to ensure testing efforts support product quality and delivery expectations.
The Lead will establish automation best practices, build and maintain testing processes, and provide technical guidance to the team. This position requires strong handson experience with C#, Playwright, SpecFlow, and modern automation frameworks. You will be responsible for building and maintaining automation frameworks, writing reliable UI tests, supporting CI/CD pipelines, and working closely with developers and QA engineers to deliver highquality software.
Essential Functions
Develop the overall automation test strategy and resource plans.
Build, enhance, and maintain automated tests as new features are introduced.
Provide accurate estimates for automation development efforts.
Create reusable components to improve maintainability, reusability, and test stability.
Track and report key testing metrics at the project and program level.
Define automation roadmaps, KPIs, and best practices.
Analyze business requirements, functional specs, and user stories to create test cases.
Write test scripts—manual and automated—for UI, API, and database validation.
Develop automation scripts for integration into CI/CD pipelines.
Execute both manual and automated test suites.
Maintain regression test suites and ensure they remain updated and stable.
Collaborate with developers, analysts, and QA team members to refine testable requirements.
Recommend improvements to existing standards, tools, and QA processes.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems,



Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain automated test suites using C# and Playwright.
Build and extend BDD automation using SpecFlow and Gherkin.
Write and maintain unit tests using NUnit, xUnit, or MSTest.
Automate and debug UI tests for Angular or other reactive frameworks.
Integrate automation suites into TeamCity CI/CD pipelines.
Collaborate with developers on feature requirements and test coverage.
Use Git and Bitbucket for branching, merging, and source control.
Debug issues using Visual Studio and Chrome DevTools.
Write PowerShell scripts for automation tasks or environment setup.
Contribute to code reviews and provide guidance on test coverage and automation design.
**Required Skills**:
C# Development (8-10 years)
Strong experience writing productionlevel C#.
Solid understanding of async/await, tasks, and concurrency.
Good grasp of OOP concepts and common design patterns.
Able to read, enhance, and troubleshoot existing C# codebases.
Automation & Testing
Handson experience with Playwright automation in C#.
Strong understanding of selectors, waits, test stability, screenshots, and reporting.
Experience with SpecFlow and Gherkin for BDD.
Experience with.NET unit testing frameworks (NUnit, xUnit, MSTest).
CI/CD & Tools
Experience configuring and troubleshooting automation in TeamCity.




Strong understanding of how automation integrates into CI pipelines.
Proficiency with Git (clone, pull, push, merge, conflict resolution).
Skilled with Visual Studio and Chrome DevTools for debugging.
Scripting
Working knowledge of PowerShell for automation and CI tasks.
Nice to Have
Exposure to nonweb automation (desktop, APIs, legacy, or mainframe).
Ability to extend automation practices beyond browserbased testing.
Soft Skills & Mindset
Strong interest in automation, quality engineering, and continuous improvement.
Ability to recommend improvements to frameworks, tools, and processes.
Comfortable working under technical guidance and learning new tools.
Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach.
Industry Experience (preferred)
Knowledge and experience in the insurance, health, or vision care industry is preferred.
