The Role: AWS Database Migration & Modernization ExpertWe're seeking a highly skilled and visionary AWS Database Expert to lead critical database migration, modernization, and management initiatives.
You'll be the go-to guru for transforming on-premise databases (especially MS SQL Server) into highly performant, scalable, and cost-effective solutions on AWS, with a strong focus on Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL.
You'll also champion database modernization, refactoring applications to harness the full power of AWS services like Amazon DynamoDB.Lead Database Migrations: Spearhead end-to-end migrations of on-premise databases (primarily MS SQL Server) to Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL using AWS DMS, SCT, and best practices.Drive Database Modernization: Architect and implement database modernization strategies, refactoring solutions for optimal performance and scalability on AWS (e.g., relational to DynamoDB, leveraging serverless options).
AWS Database Management: Design, deploy, and manage robust AWS database solutions (RDS Aurora, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, etc.), ensuring high availability, security, and cost-efficiency.Optimize & Secure: Implement monitoring, backup, disaster recovery, performance tuning, and security best practices for AWS databases.Technical Leadership: Act as a Subject Matter Expert, providing guidance on AWS database best practices to clients and internal teams.Documentation & Best Practices: Develop comprehensive documentation, migration plans, and operational playbooks.Stay Current: Keep ahead of the curve with emerging AWS database technologies and industry trends.
Your Expertise & Qualifications (Must-Haves): 5+ years of hands-on database administration, design, and development experience.
Deep, proven expertise in AWS database services: Amazon RDS (Aurora PostgreSQL is key!), PostgreSQL, and Amazon DynamoDB.
Demonstrable experience migrating MS SQL Server to Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL (hands-on with AWS DMS & SCT).
Strong SQL, T-SQL, and PL/pgSQL proficiency for schema conversion and development.
Expertise in database performance tuning, query optimization, and troubleshooting.
Solid understanding of AWS cloud fundamentals (VPC, EC2, S3, IAM, CloudWatch).
Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
Bachelor's degree in CS/Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
Experience with other AWS data services (Redshift, DocumentDB, ElastiCache).
Familiarity with DevOps and CI/CD for databases.
