Job Overview
The Manufacturing & Process Development Engineer I is responsible for developing, implementing, validating, and optimizing manufacturing processes for cable assemblies and wiring products. This role supports new product introductions (NPI), process industrialization, tooling validation, and continuous improvement initiatives to ensure quality, productivity, safety, and operational excellence.
The position works closely with Production, Quality, Maintenance, NPI, and Engineering teams to drive process efficiency, troubleshoot manufacturing issues, and support the successful launch of new products into production.
What your background should look like
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
Experience
- Experience solving manufacturing and technical process issues.
- Experience supporting continuous improvement and scrap reduction initiatives.
- Experience managing engineering changes and technical documentation.
- Exposure to product launches, NPI projects, or manufacturing improvement projects.
Technical Knowledge
- SAP and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Cable assembly manufacturing processes including cutting, stripping, crimping, terminating, and assembly.
- Process validation and tooling qualification.
- APQP methodology and quality tools.
- Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement principles.
- PFMEA, Control Plans, and process documentation management.
Technical Skills
- Blueprint and technical drawing interpretation.
- IPC specifications and standards.
- Dimensional measurement tools and inspection techniques.
- Automated and semi-automated cable manufacturing equipment.
- Terminal applicators and crimping presses.
- Electrical testing and continuity test equipment.
- Vision systems and traceability systems.
- Fixture and tooling design and validation.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical support to cable manufacturing and assembly operations.
- Monitor manufacturing process performance and address process deviations.
- Coordinate and support new product trials, engineering changes, and NPI activities.
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and productivity standards.
- Support validation of tooling, fixtures, equipment, and manufacturing processes.
- Troubleshoot process, material, and manufacturing-related issues.
- Maintain and update technical documentation, work instructions, and process records.
- Participate in production, engineering, and project review meetings.
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for recurring manufacturing issues.
- Develop and implement continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, cost reduction, and operational efficiency.
- Conduct process capability studies and manufacturing validations.
- Support APQP activities and product launch projects.
- Review and maintain PFMEA, Control Plans, and process documentation.
- Coordinate engineering changes (ECO, ECN, and MOC).
- Support product and manufacturing line transfers between facilities.
- Participate in internal, customer, and external audits.
- Execute IQ, OQ, and PQ activities as required.
