The British Government is an inclusive and diversity-friendly employer.We value difference, promote equality and challenge discrimination, enhancing our organisational capability.We welcome and encourage applications from people of all backgrounds.We do not discriminate on the basis of disability, race, colour, ethnicity, gender identity, religion, sexual orientation, age, veteran status or other category protected by law.We promote family-friendly versátil working opportunities, where operational and security needs allow.The FCDO operates an agile workforce and to facilitate this, you may be required to undertake other duties from time to time, as we may reasonably require.Job Category Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (Consular Roles) Job Subcategory Consular Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities) Main purpose of job The main purpose of the role is to ensure delivery of professional and high-quality front-line services in line with FCDO guidance.The successful candidate will need to deliver professional and efficient consular services to British Nationals and other qualifying persons in Mexico.Roles and responsibilities Assistance work, including crisis Provide consular guidance and assistance to British Nationals and other qualifying persons, with a particular emphasis on those deemed vulnerable in Mexico.Perform required Notarial and Documentary Services according to guidance.Assist with high profile and/or complex consular cases, maintaining communication with stakeholders externally (local authorities, NGOs, Civil Society and other Embassies) and internally including senior management and London.Assist in meeting Consular Business Targets.Build and maintain a good base of consular contacts through outreach programmes to assist with Consular cases and Crisis planning.Participate in Crisis Exercises and prepare for possible deployment as deputy Consular Manager.Outreach Help to establish and maintain a network of key contacts, such as government agencies, NGOs, other Embassies,



etc.Communication and administration Assist with Consular internal and external communications at post.In the Vice-Consul's absence represent the Embassy at Consular meetings and external engagements.Work with the authorities on consular assistance matters.Undertake administrative and other self-management tasks.Contribute to the management of the Consular Budget for Post.Regional responsibilities: Contribute to Consular Strategy and Policy input and respond to requests for information from Regional Management and London.Actively participate in regional conferences.Support other posts in the region by contributing to resilience, both remotely and deploying when required.Sometimes at short notice.Support prevention strategies, developing programmes with teams at as well as other diplomatic missions.Resources managed (staff and expenditure) Managing budgets (consular imprest, benevolent fund, consular fees) during Vice-Consul's absence.Essential qualifications, skills and experience Higher Education in international relations, law, social sciences, psychology or other relevant field.Excellent organisation and prioritisation skills.Experience working in a public-facing role.Should be a proactive and creative self-starter with strong interpersonal skills who has the ability to learn quickly.Able to prioritise in a fast-paced work environment, working largely unsupervised, delivering to deadlines and agreed targets.Proven ability to handle sensitive personal information with discretion, confidentiality, empathy, and professionalism, while interacting with customers and colleagues in a respectful, non-judgmental manner.Sound judgement, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to exercise initiative when managing complex or sensitive matters.Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage effectively and professionally with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders,
