Employment Counsel – Mexico and Latin America

Main Objective:
The Employment Counsel- Mexico and Latin America is an experienced labor & employment lawyer, responsible for Orbia’s employment law function in Mexico and Latin America. Reporting to Orbia’s Integral Head of Labor and Employment, you will serve as a key legal partner and resource for the Legal teams and People teams across all of Orbia’s business groups in Mexico and Latin America.
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide timely and practical legal advice to meet the labor/employment legal needs of a global company.
- Provide day-to-day advice and guidance to People Team members and business leaders in Mexico and Latin America on a variety of employment topics, including hiring, performance management, employee relations, leaves of absence and accommodations, workplace safety issues, discipline and termination,
compensation, benefits, and union/labor relations.
- Partner closely and collaboratively with investigative functions, providing day to day employment law advice relating to internal investigations in Mexico and Latin America.
- Oversee employment related litigation in Mexico and Latin America, including responding to attorney demand letters, effectively negotiating resolution of claims, and making recommendations to the People Team and senior management on corrective action.
- Oversee and manage outside counsel on all matters in Mexico and Latin America to ensure high-quality, cost-effective service, leveraging an established network of outside counsel.
Requirements:
Advanced conversational English (mandatory requirement).
Minimum: Bachelor of Laws Degree or equivalent.
- Minimum of 8 years of labor & employment law experience.
- Bachelor of Laws Degree or equivalent.
- Fluency in English and Spanish is a must; additional languages such as Dutch, French, German or Polish is a plus.
- Prior in-house experience preferred.
