Role Description We are seeking a high-energy, entrepreneurial, and experienced Technical Sales and Business Development Manager to spearhead our commercial expansion in the Mexican plastic resin market. Operating within a lean, agile team, the successful candidate will function as the commercial anchor for Mexico, building our market footprint from the ground up. This role requires a rare combination of aggressive customer acquisition, technical project management, and international supplier coordination.
The ideal candidate has a strong technical background in plastics/polymers, especially with value-added engineered and compounded resins, existing customer relationships, and proven experience in international supplier qualification (particularly Asia). You will be fully responsible for managing the entire project lifecycle with minimal oversight—from initial technical consultations and Technical Data Sheet (TDS) reviews to mold tryouts, product homologation, and post-qualification production. This is a highly entrepreneurial, profit-sharing-based role designed for a self-motivated executive who can independently scale a region into a meaningful revenue contributor and be comfortable working with a lean, tight-knit team.
Key Responsibilities Customer Development and Business Growth
Identify, target, and capture high-quality accounts within the electrical & electronics, consumer/home appliance, packaging, automotive, and HVAC industries
Target IMMEX-certified Tier 1 and Tier 2 manufacturers (Maquiladoras) to seamlessly leverage tariff-efficient import structures
Drive comprehensive pricing negotiations with both suppliers and customers, strategically managing the end-to-end quoting process
Support commercial development and technical sales for plastics/polymers, metallic components, and production machinery
Prepare and deliver technical presentations, proposals, and project updates to clients Project Management & Technical Development
Lead the end-to-end commercialization and technical approval process for raw material resins, custom compounds, and associated production equipment
Review, interpret, and approve technical manufacturing documentation, including Technical Data Sheets (TDS), mold tryout reports, and final customer homologation dossiers
Provide on-site technical support during customer resin trials, analyzing physical processing parameters and troubleshooting raw material behavior
Manage complex engineering projects involving metallic components, fastening inserts, and auxiliary production machinery
Procurement and International Supplier Development
Identify, develop, and qualify international suppliers, with a strong emphasis on Asian and US-based partners
Conduct complex commercial and technical negotiations covering resin grades, pricing, and order quantities
Manage supplier homologation processes and ensure compliance with quality and cost targets Operational Support
Partner closely with the CEO, the lead Plastics Business Development Manager in Brazil, the Supply Chain Manager, and the Financial Controller to drive sustainable growth
Act as the strategic eyes and ears on the ground in Mexico,
mapping competitive landscapes and eventually hiring and managing sales agents as the territory expands Qualifications
Minimum 7+ years of experience spanning technical sales/business development, polymer project management, or procurement within the plastics sector
Direct experience at a trading and distribution company is highly preferred
Deep understanding of the physical and mechanical properties of commodity resins and performance-engineered compounds
Proven, active commercial relationships with established molders and OEMs in Mexico, with a demonstrated ability to generate revenue from day one
Direct experience operating within or selling to companies utilizing the IMMEX/FTZ/USMCA framework to ensure smooth execution of a port-to-port distribution model
Proven experience participating in international supplier visits, global trade fairs (e.g., Chinaplas, NPE), and general supplier qualification workflows (particularly with Chinese and East Asian networks). The ability to develop US-based suppliers is a plus
Hands-on experience with TDS, tryouts, tooling development, and customer approval processes
Degree in Polymer Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or Mechanical/Industrial Engineering A postgraduate specialization in Project Management (PMP certification), International Business, or Global Supply Chain Management is a distinct advantage
Complete professional fluency in both English and Spanish (written and verbal) is mandatory. Fluency or conversational ability in Portuguese is a valuable corporate asset Skills, Competencies, and Personal Attributes
