Siemens Electrification and Automation is seeking a Substation Automation and Protection Panel Design Engineer to support Siemens customers in designing, developing, and manufacturing world‐class power protection and automation panels of substation Protection, automation systems and applications that incorporate Siemens or other automation products.
General Responsibilities:
Configure and test protection relays and/or RTUs/PLCs for electrical protections and controls schemes of substations systems and generation stations
Prepare (FAT)
Factory Acceptance Test procedures & testing environments for customer projects
Implement protection schemes and logic diagrams based on technical drawings
Download relay configuration to devices in the factory
Download PLC/RTU configuration to IEDs in the factory
Perform functional testing of MV‐AIS/GIS switchgear integrated with Control and Protection IEDs installed in the gear
Test of ATS schemes for MM/MTM/MTTM applications implemented on protection relays, PLCs and/or RTUs
Test and Verify Peer‐to‐Peer relay and RTU communication (IEC***** GOOSE / SEL Mirrored‐Bits)
Be one of our primary customer interfaces for Factory Tests, including trouble shooting and support
Occasionally assist in developing new order proposals (bills of materials, estimated engineering hours, etc.)
Report processes and tools inefficiencies and suggests improvements ideas
Specific Responsibilities: Protection and Control Relay Applications Engineer
Prepare Test Set (Omicron, Doble, etc...) routines for various electrical protections applications
Design, development, implementation, testing, and commissioning of protection and control applications and schemes
Configure, test and perform commissioning relays for retrofit applications
Travel to US customer sites is expected for testing of Control and Protection equipment as well as in Frankfurt Factory in Germany or in Wendell in USA (Availability to travel occasionally)
Perform Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) for Protection Systems
What will you need to succeed?
BS degree in Electrical Engineering or Similar with applicable knowhow
5 + years of direct experience in configuration & commissioning of Protection and Automation Systems
Basic knowledge in Communication networks and such as layer 2, layer 3, RSTP, PRP topologies
Substations and industrial communication protocols such as IEC*****, DNP,
Modbus, Profinet, Profibus
Knowledge of automation software
Siemens SICAM PAS/SCC and/or
SICAM Device Manager
SEL ACSELERATOR SOFTWARE
SIMATIC S7 (TIA Portal)
Basic Knowledge in electrical schematic designs for control and protection of Low, Medium and High Voltage systems
Power System protection applied to Low, Medium and High Voltage systems
Medium voltage protection schemes (including design of transfer schemes and reverse interlocking schemes)
Busbar protection
Transformer protection
Breaker failure protection
Knowledge of Siemens, GE, SEL or ABB Protection Relay products and associated software
Electrical Troubleshooting focused on electrical protections engineering (Identify and rectify issues in protection configuration, schemes and control circuits)
Considered a Plus – Not Required
The following experience is not required but candidates who can demonstrate solid knowledge in these areas will be given extra consideration:
Capacitor bank protection
Communication Network Technologies, including Design, Configuration, and troubleshooting
Communication protocols such as IEC103, IEC101, IEC104.
Knowledge of ANSI standards, IEC standards
Line Transmission and Distribution protection
Generator protection for small, medium, and large generators (including protection settings calculation)
High voltage, distribution, and generation applications
Knowledge of the multiple vendors' relay products and associated software
Drafting abilities using AutoCAD or MicroStation
C Programming Language experience
