The Vertiv commodity manager is a crucial member of the procurement organization, requiring a diverse set of skills, qualifications, and attributes. This role is complex and involves significant responsibilities in selecting and qualifying suppliers of critical manufactured components. The manager must possess extensive knowledge of manufacturing processes and available technologies to optimize supply chain efficiencies.
In collaboration with key stakeholders, the commodity manager develops, communicates, and coordinates the procurement strategy for the Americas. This requires a deep understanding of the market, technology, supplier sourcing, risk management, and performance management.
A key aspect of the role is minimizing risk to Vertiv. The manager must develop a robust risk mitigation strategy through an appropriate supplier network, ensuring continuity of supply while reducing supply chain risks.
Operationally, the manager acts as the liaison between Vertiv America's team and various global/strategic manufacturers and suppliers, as well as the procurement and operations teams. The manager supports global and regional suppliers, operating at a strategic level to meet business needs and manage the commercial aspects of supplier relationships.
The commodity manager must align regional, general, and strategic procurement policies with the overall company strategy, ensuring that procurement efforts drive the fulfillment of these objectives.
**RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Develop, communicate, and refine the Vertiv commodity strategy through regular monthly engagement with marketing, purchasing, materials management, engineering, and strategic supply partners to plan,



organize, and manage strategic and tactical sourcing and procurement efforts.
- Building strong relationships with Marketing, Engineering, and Regional Operations teams is crucial for success.
- Manage commercial relationships with key strategic suppliers, including contract negotiation, pricing, lead-time, inventory performance, and quality monitoring.
- Ensure all necessary legal agreements are executed and supplemental contracts supporting supply continuity and optimization goals are completed.
- Negotiate prices and complete cost analysis against should-cost models and internal make costs.
- Lead projects aimed at reducing waste and improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the sourcing process.
- Develop program budgets, plans, and objectives to meet the goals of the Procurement organization.
- Oversee, communicate, and report on commodity performance, including:
- Technology and innovation trends and progress.
- Material inflation planning and reporting, including risk mitigation and cost reduction strategies to achieve the Annual Operating Plan (AOP).
- Supply base development and management, including supplier strategy, supplier population, and preferred supplier list.




- Collaborate with Quality Assurance to develop and report on continuous improvement programs and ensure detailed performance feedback is communicated to suppliers.
- Identify and drive best practices related to sourcing, pricing, total cost contributors, quality, efficiency, speed, and responsiveness.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Engineering, Business, or a related field is preferred.
- 4-8 years of procurement experience with expertise in supplier negotiations, sourcing, strategy development, cost analysis, and contract negotiation within a manufacturing setting.
- CPIM certification or equivalent is desirable.
- Experience with Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), focusing on solutions thinking rather than individual components.
- Ability to analyze market trends and create detailed reports to support business decisions.
- Skill in developing KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) specific to commodity management, market trends, and TCO.
- Experience in implementing replenishment programs like VMI, consignment, or kanban.
- Strong negotiation skills and the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
- Excellent analytical and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex scenarios clearly while managing multiple projects and shifting priorities.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain productive relationships with cross-functional teams in a global organization.
- Critical thinking skills to analyze procedures and processes and develop alternative solutions to address supply chain risks and challenges.
