Job Purpose
Lead the engineering department to ensure the proper implementation, improvement, and control of manufacturing processes (cutting, bending, welding, and painting), guaranteeing operational efficiency, product quality, cost reduction, and compliance with customer and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct, plan, and coordinate the activities of the engineering department (process, manufacturing, design, and continuous improvement).
- Develop and implement efficient processes for laser cutting, CNC bending, MIG/TIG welding, and powder or liquid painting.
- Validate and approve new processes, tools, and technologies to improve productivity and product quality.
- Lead continuous improvement projects focused on waste reduction, cycle time improvement, and cost savings (LEAN, Kaizen, Six Sigma, etc.).
- Coordinate the introduction of new products (NPI) in collaboration with quality, production, and design teams.
- Ensure that all processes meet quality requirements, safety regulations, and customer standards.
- Supervise the team of process, manufacturing, design, and quality engineers.
- Prepare and manage the engineering department's budget.
- Work closely with production, maintenance, quality, and purchasing departments.
- Ensure proper documentation of processes, work instructions, routings,
and drawings.
- Provide technical support to production for troubleshooting and process deviations.
- Implement automation or mechanization solutions when feasible.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- On-time and on-budget completion of projects
- Process efficiency (OEE, scrap rate, rework)
- Time to market for new product introductions (NPI)
- Cost reduction and improvements implemented
- Internal and external customer satisfaction
Job Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Industrial, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Manufacturing Engineering or related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 to 8 years in a similar role within the maquiladora industry (preferably in metal-mechanical manufacturing).
- Technical Knowledge:
- Metal manufacturing processes (cutting, bending, welding, painting)
- Mechanical drawing interpretation and GD&T;
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Six Sigma, FMEA, APQP
- CAD design (SolidWorks, AutoCAD)
- Quality standards (ISO 9001 or IATF 16949)
- Skills:
- Leadership and management of multidisciplinary teams
- Data analysis and problem-solving
- Effective communication and teamwork
- Strategic planning and project management
