Storage Solutions Engineer
The Hardware Organization at IBM is seeking a specialist to join us in our mission to deliver industry‑leading storage systems. The team has delivered highly successful products for our customers, developing high‑performing and resilient software and hardware that keeps business‑critical systems and data available 24/7 around the world.
We are looking for passionate problem‑solvers with a thorough technical grounding to help us develop solutions to meet our customers’ ever‑changing needs for storing and managing data across multiple IBM hardware platforms.
We work closely with IBM colleagues in our general development community.
Your Role and Responsibilities
This role is for the IBM Infrastructure, Hardware Organization Development team. The Hardware Organization is distributed worldwide with sites in Guadalajara Mexico, Tel Aviv Israel, Houston US, and Hursley UK.
The successful candidate will use their broad knowledge of hardware and firmware design and operation, together with functional specifications and high‑level design documents, to support the IBM Architect and vendor design team, to define and run verification tests, and to debug hardware issues on IBM Storage System products and peripherals. In addition the role includes reproducing failures seen by clients and testing the mitigations.
This role involves test and verification activities in multiple disciplines, such as CPU, memory, PCIe and I2C buses, firmware (BIOS, BMC, CPLD, TPM), electrical (PSU, BBU), and mechanical engineering. It requires strong analytical skills and technical skills.
The team also collaborates closely with the Software Organizations who require this hardware to deliver their Storage Solutions to IBM customers and ensure the software interfaces to enclosure management systems function correctly.
The team is responsible for hardware support for Storage Products before and after a launch, including failure analysis of suspected hardware or firmware issues, and supporting all hardware users, including software developers and testers in IBM, hardware manufacturers who build systems for IBM, and vendors who supply components and diagnostic tools.

Bachelor's Degree
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
- Basics of block and file storage concepts
- Experience in documenting bugs and procedures
- Experience with hardware devices such as x86 CPUs, memory, switches, PCIe and I2C buses
- Understanding of programmable devices such as BIOS, BMC, CPLD, TPM, electrical (PSU, BBU)
- Working knowledge of Linux environments
Preferred Technical and Professional Experience
- Fundamental knowledge of storage controllers in HPC environments
- Experience with cloud platforms
