The IT Staff Test Engineering is responsible for establishing and leading the testing function within the IT organization. This role will design, implement, and mature a robust testing framework that ensures the quality, reliability, and performance of IT systems — including both off-the-shelf (COTS) and custom-developed applications.
The Staff Test engineer will oversee a team of Test Engineers, drive test strategy, manage resource allocation, and ensure best practices in software and systems testing are consistently applied across the IT portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of IT Test Engineers to deliver high-quality testing outcomes.
- Define the overall testing strategy, framework, and standards for Non-GxP IT systems (COTS and custom solutions).
- Establish governance, policies, and metrics for quality assurance and testing processes.
- Collaborate with IT leadership, development teams, and business stakeholders to integrate testing into the broader software delivery lifecycle.
- For GxP systems , collaborate with Quality Assurance, Computer Software Assurance leadership to ensure alignment with NBI’s Computer Software Assurance Program.
Framework Development & Implementation
- Design and implement scalable and repeatable testing frameworks, including automated, regression, and performance testing solutions.
- Select and standardize testing tools, methodologies, and environments suitable for the organization’s technology stack.
- Build testing processes for validation of integrations between enterprise systems (ERP, CRM, data platforms, etc.).
- Ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory standards in all testing practices.
Resource & Project Management
- Capacity planning and development of the IT Test Engineering team.
- Allocate testing resources effectively across multiple concurrent IT initiatives.
- Develop and manage testing, schedules, and deliverables.
- Drive continuous improvement in testing efficiency and defect management.
- Partner closely with IT PMO, development, infrastructure, and operations teams to align testing efforts with project goals.
- Provide clear reporting on test results, quality metrics, and risk assessments to leadership.
- Foster a culture of accountability, quality, and collaboration within the IT organization.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related technical field required; Master’s degree preferred.
- 8+ years of experience in software quality assurance, IT testing, or test engineering, including experience supporting enterprise IT environments.
- 3+ years of experience in a leadership role overseeing QA/Test Engineering teams.
- Proven Experience with GxP systems, Computer Software Assurance (CSA),
or validation processes in regulated industries.
- Proven experience planning, analyzing, designing, implementing, executing, and scaling enterprise testing frameworks for both custom-developed and COTS applications.
- Strong knowledge of software testing methodologies, including functional, regression, integration, system, user acceptance, and performance testing.
- Hands‑on experience with test automation tools and frameworks such as Jira Zephyr, Veeva Validation Management, Selenium , Playwright, JUnit, TestNG, ServiceNow automation workflows or similar technologies.
- Experience supporting testing efforts across enterprise platforms and integrations, including ERP, CRM, cloud, and data systems.
- Life sciences testing experience (biotech, pharma, medical device).
- Strong understanding of SDLC, Agile Frameworks,
- Experience defining QA governance, metrics, defect management processes, and quality standards across multiple projects or portfolios.
- Demonstrated ability to manage resource planning, project prioritization, budgets, and vendor coordination within a testing organization.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and business teams.
- Experience working within regulated environments and supporting compliance-driven testing practices is preferred.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent initiatives.
