An FDE is a senior, customer-embedded engineer who owns the technical success of an AI deployment end to end. They do not advise and hand implementation to another team—the FDE is the implementation owner. Core responsibilities

- Understand the customer’s workflows, systems, constraints and desired business outcomes.
- Break ambiguous business problems into solvable technical components.
- Design, build and launch production AI agents.
- Integrate legacy systems, APIs, data sources, CRMs, telephony and customer infrastructure.
- Navigate security, compliance and incomplete requirements.
- Debug production failures in environments the FDE does not fully control.
- Prioritize competing needs, challenge poor requirements and find creative alternatives.
- Align technical and business stakeholders and earn customer trust.
- Turn customer-specific solutions into reusable platform improvements. Typical working style
- High autonomy and accountability, often as the most senior technical person in the room.
- Frequent context-switching: architecture and coding in the morning; customer or executive discussions later.
- On-site or closely embedded with customers,

- Strong software-engineering and systems-integration fundamentals.
- Ability to solve complex problems in brownfield/legacy environments.
- Broad technical fluency across integrations, agents and data—or deep expertise in an area such as telephony architecture.
- Product judgment, structured problem decomposition and comfort using AI tools to move quickly.
- Clear communication with both engineers and business leaders.
- Resourcefulness, ownership and sound judgment under ambiguity.
- Genuine energy for customer-facing work and measurable business impact.
