We are looking for a Kafka Developer to work on hybrid mode in Mexico City for a multicultural project with stability and growth in the short, medium and long term.
Required Qualifications
This role serves as the technical authority for implementing asynchronous and event-driven integration patterns, ensuring that event flows between producers and consumers are reliable, scalable, and aligned with modern architecture principles.
Although the operational management of the Kafka platform may be handled by another team, this position is responsible for defining the development strategy and best practices that maximize the value of the event streaming ecosystem across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and enable enterprise messaging and event streaming solutions using Apache Kafka and Confluent Platform.
- Define and govern Kafka architecture standards, including:
- Topic strategy
- Partitioning
- Key selection
- Retention policies
- Delivery semantics
- Event and data contracts
- Ensure streaming solutions effectively support both business and engineering requirements.
- Design and develop internal frameworks and reusable libraries that enable secure, standardized event publishing and consumption.
- Eliminate duplicated implementations while reducing common messaging issues such as:
- Message loss
- Uncontrolled reprocessing
- Incorrect event ordering
- Collaborate closely with Solution Architects and Data Engineering teams to implement:
- Schema governance
- Version compatibility
- Event contract management
- Promote logical observability best practices,
including monitoring of:
- Consumer lag
- Throughput
- Consumer group performance
- Define resilience strategies for distributed event-driven systems, including:
- Retry mechanisms
- Dead Letter Queues (DLQs)
- Backpressure handling
- Idempotent processing
- Replay strategies
- Drive the adoption of Kafka as the organization's integration backbone while maximizing event consistency, traceability, and long-term maintainability.
- Act as the technical reference for event-driven architecture best practices across development teams.
Required Qualifications (Must Have)
- Strong experience with Confluent Kafka and the Confluent Platform.
- Hands-on experience with Schema Registry.
- Expertise in event serialization using:
- Avro
- Protobuf
- JSON Schema
- Strong Java development experience with Spring Kafka.
- Deep understanding of Kafka delivery semantics:
- At-least-once
- Exactly-once
- Experience with Kafka Connect.
- Knowledge of event formats, message headers, and distributed tracing/correlation techniques.
- Experience using:
- Git / Bitbucket
- Jira
- Confluence
