Overview
Department: Engineering / Manufacturing Engineering
Reports To: Engineering Manager
The Robotics Engineer is responsible for designing, programming, implementing, troubleshooting, and optimizing robotic automation systems to improve manufacturing efficiency, quality, and safety. This role works closely with production, maintenance, quality, and engineering teams to ensure robotic equipment operates reliably while supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Design, program, and integrate industrial robotic systems for manufacturing processes.
- Develop robotic applications for assembly, welding, material handling, machine tending, palletizing, and inspection.
- Program and troubleshoot robots (ABB, FANUC, KUKA, Yaskawa, Universal Robots, or similar).
- Optimize robot cycle times and improve equipment efficiency (OEE).
- Support new equipment installation, commissioning, and production launch activities.
- Diagnose and resolve robotic, electrical, mechanical, and programming issues.
- Create and maintain robot programs, backups, documentation, and preventive maintenance procedures.
- Collaborate with Controls Engineers to integrate PLCs, HMIs, vision systems, and sensors.
- Analyze production data and implement continuous improvement projects.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and machine safety standards.
- Train production and maintenance personnel on robotic systems.
- Support capital projects and automation initiatives.
- Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action activities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Robotics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics,
Automation Engineering, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience working with industrial robotics in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with robotic programming and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Omron, etc.).
- Understanding of industrial automation, sensors, pneumatics, servo systems, and machine vision.
- Experience with robotic simulation software is preferred.
- Ability to read electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic drawings.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Willingness to support production during off-shifts or weekends as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Automotive manufacturing experience.
- Experience with robotic welding applications.
- Knowledge of Industry 4.0 technologies.
- Experience with CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor, CATIA).
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
