Job Objective
To design, standardize, and optimize material handling and warehouse layout. The goal is to ensure that materials are moved with minimal waste (transport and handling), maximizing storage density and guaranteeing that internal routes can supply production in a lean manner.
Scope
Their authority extends over process design from the receiving dock, storage, internal kitting/sequencing, delivery routes to production lines, and finally to the shipping dock. They do not supervise operators, but they define how, how much, on what, and where they should work.
Key Activities
Development and maintenance of the PFEP (Plan for Each Piece)
Design of warehouse layouts and internal storage areas.
Sizing and designing racking areas, supermarkets, staging zones, and traffic flows on the floor.
Standardization of Containers and Packaging (Standard Packs)
Defining and calculating transfer lot sizes, ergonomic containers, and the design of gravity racks on the lines (flow racks).
Design of Kanban Systems and Picking Routes
Calculating the number of Kanban cards required in the circuits, sizing the cyclical picking routes (Water Spider), and defining delivery frequencies based on Takt Time.
Logistics Time and Motion Studies: Analyze theoretical workloads to determine how many material handlers (pickers/forklifts) are required based on production volume.
