Academic Leadership
Lead the implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of the Primary English curriculum.
Ensure curriculum alignment across grade levels and consistency in instructional practices.
Promote best practices in English language teaching, literacy instruction, and language acquisition.
Monitor curriculum delivery to ensure learning objectives and academic standards are achieved.
Support the integration of inquiry-based, student-centered, and differentiated instructional strategies.
Teacher Leadership and Professional Development
Supervise, mentor, and coach English teachers through regular classroom observations and constructive feedback.
Facilitate departmental meetings, collaborative planning sessions, and professional learning communities.
Identify professional development needs and coordinate training opportunities.
Support new teachers during onboarding and instructional implementation.
Foster collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the English Department.
Curriculum, Assessment, and Student Achievement
Monitor student academic performance and literacy development across all Primary grades.
Analyze assessment data to identify trends and implement improvement strategies.
Ensure consistency in assessment practices, grading, and reporting.
Coordinate internal assessments and support preparation for external assessments where applicable.
Promote reading, writing, speaking, and listening development through a balanced literacy approach.
Resource and Program Management
Coordinate the selection, organization, and effective use of instructional resources and digital learning tools.
Manage departmental inventories, teaching materials, and English language resources.
Participate in budget planning and recommend the acquisition of new educational materials.
Support the implementation of reading initiatives, literacy events, and English language enrichment activities.
Communication and Collaboration
Maintain effective communication with school leadership regarding curriculum implementation and departmental performance.
Collaborate with academic coordinators and other departments to promote interdisciplinary learning.
Meet with parents when necessary to discuss student academic progress or departmental initiatives.
Represent the English Department in academic committees and school-wide initiatives.
School Improvement and Compliance
Contribute to the school's strategic improvement plan.
Prepare documentation required for accreditation, inspections, audits, and curriculum reviews.
Ensure compliance with school policies, curriculum standards, and institutional procedures.
Promote innovation and continuous improvement within the English Department.
Safeguarding and Student Wellbeing
Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
Ensure compliance with safeguarding, child protection, health, & safety policies.
Report safeguarding concerns in accordance with school procedures.
Foster student wellbeing and positive relationships within the learning environment.
Skills, Qualifications and Experience
Strong instructional leadership and curriculum development skills.
Excellent knowledge of English language acquisition and literacy instruction.
Coaching, mentoring, and teacher development skills.
Data analysis and student performance monitoring.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Organizational and project management abilities.
Problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Ability to lead collaborative teams and manage change.
Proficiency in educational technology and digital learning platforms.
Bachelor's degree in Education, English, Applied Linguistics, TESOL, ELT, or a related field.
Valid teaching certification.
Master's degree in Education, Educational Leadership, Curriculum, TESOL, or a related field (preferred).
Cambridge, IB, or other international curriculum training (desirable).
English language proficiency at C1 or C2 level (or equivalent).
Experience Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience in Primary English.
Previous experience as an English Department Coordinator,
Academic Coordinator, or instructional leader is preferred.
Experience developing curriculum, assessments, and literacy programs.
Experience coaching teachers and leading professional development.
Experience with bilingual or international schools is highly desirable.
Experience with Cambridge, IB PYP, or other international educational frameworks is an advantage.
