**Overview**
This role involves supporting both legacy and active systems, many of which interface with **cPanel**, handle **server automation**, and support internal and client-facing services hosted on **Linux**.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Take full ownership of ~40 codebases built primarily in:
- PHP
- Python
- Bash/Shell
- Perl
- Maintain and improve **projects**, which are integrated with **cPanel** and run on **Linux servers**.
- Collaborate with DevOps to deploy and troubleshoot across staging and production environments.
- Refactor or sunset deprecated codebases while preparing cleaner replacements when necessary.
- Manage **custom WordPress plugins/themes** and ensure seamless operation of WordPress sites.
- Maintain documentation and version control hygiene using GitHub.
**Required Skills**:
- **Fluency in PHP, Python, and Bash** scripting
- **MySQL**/PostgreSQL administration
- Strong understanding of **Perl** for maintaining legacy systems
- Proven experience working with **Linux (Ubuntu/CentOS)** and **cPanel** environments
- Hands-on experience with **WordPress**: plugin development, theme customization,



optimization
- Proficiency with Git, GitHub CLI, and GitHub Actions (preferred)
- Experience with webhooks, REST APIs, and server-side automation
**Preferred Skills**
- Apache/nginx configuration
- Prior work maintaining monolithic or multi-repo enterprise apps
You are an adaptable, disciplined developer with a healthy respect for legacy code and a modern mindset toward incremental refactoring. You should be able to audit and make sense of existing code quickly and take decisive ownership of systems critical to Etica's infrastructure. You will work closely with infrastructure engineers and technical leadership to continue automating, hardening, and modernizing our systems — while keeping the lights on.
