ISP Laboratories Coordinator
Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Operations
Coordinate the daily operation of the Biology, Chemistry, and Physics laboratories.
Prepare laboratories, equipment, chemicals, materials, and supplies required for practical lessons and experiments.
Ensure laboratories are organized, clean, and fully prepared before each practical session.
Receive laboratories after practical activities, ensuring equipment and materials are returned, cleaned, inspected, and stored appropriately.
Coordinate laboratory schedules in collaboration with academic coordinators and science teachers.
Ensure laboratories meet institutional and regulatory safety standards.
Inventory and Asset Management
Maintain accurate inventories of laboratory equipment, chemicals, consumables, and teaching materials.
Conduct periodic inventory audits and reconcile stock levels.
Monitor inventory usage and identify replenishment needs.
Ensure proper labeling, storage, handling, and disposal of laboratory materials and hazardous substances.
Maintain records of laboratory equipment, maintenance schedules, repairs, and warranties.
Procurement and Budget Management
Manage the annual laboratory operating budget.
Prepare purchase requests for laboratory equipment, chemicals, supplies, and consumables.
Obtain supplier quotations and support purchasing decisions.
Monitor expenditures to ensure efficient budget utilization.
Maintain documentation related to procurement, invoices, and purchasing records.
Health, Safety, and Compliance
Ensure compliance with laboratory safety policies, institutional procedures, and applicable regulations.
Monitor the proper storage, handling, transportation, and disposal of chemicals and hazardous materials.
Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and chemical inventories.
Ensure safety equipment, including fire extinguishers, eyewash stations, first aid kits, spill kits, and emergency equipment, are operational and regularly inspected.
Conduct regular laboratory safety inspections and report potential hazards.
Promote a culture of safety among students and staff.
Academic Support
Collaborate with science teachers in planning laboratory activities and experiments.
Prepare instructional materials and laboratory setups according to lesson requirements.
Provide technical assistance during laboratory sessions when needed.
Recommend laboratory resources, equipment, and process improvements to enhance student learning.
Support science fairs, research projects, and extracurricular laboratory activities.
Documentation and Reporting
Maintain accurate records of inventory, purchases, maintenance, laboratory usage, incidents, and chemical management.
Prepare reports related to budget utilization, inventory status, equipment maintenance, and laboratory operations.
Support internal audits, inspections, accreditation processes, and regulatory reviews by maintaining complete and accurate documentation.
Safeguarding and Student Wellbeing
Ensure laboratories provide a safe environment for all students and staff.
Comply with safeguarding, health and safety, and child protection policies.
Report any safety concerns or incidents following institutional procedures.
Skills, Qualifications and Experience
Strong organizational and planning skills.
Knowledge of laboratory operations and scientific equipment.
Inventory and budget management.
Knowledge of laboratory safety regulations and hazardous materials management.
Excellent attention to detail.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Effective communication and teamwork.
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and inventory management systems.
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Biotechnology, Laboratory Sciences, Engineering, or a related scientific field.
Training in laboratory safety and hazardous materials management (preferred).
Certification in Occupational Health and Safety or Laboratory Safety (desirable).
First Aid certification (desirable).
Minimum of 3 years of experience working in educational, scientific, or research laboratories.
Experience managing laboratory inventories, chemicals, equipment, and consumables.
Experience with procurement processes and budget management.
Experience supporting laboratory instruction in secondary or high school settings.
Experience working in educational institutions, preferably international schools, is desirable.
Experience supporting inspections, accreditation, or compliance processes is an advantage.
