Descripción del trabajo The VP, Legal, Compliance & Sustainability serves as the senior legal executive for Element's Mexican operations and leads the legal, compliance, governance, litigation, regulatory, AML, privacy, and sustainability agenda across all Mexican entities.
The role provides strategic legal leadership, protects the company's assets, supports commercial growth, and ensures that regulatory and corporate governance obligations are met with discipline and integrity.
This leader partners closely with executive leadership and functional stakeholders to enable business objectives while mitigating legal, regulatory, operational, financial, and reputational risks.
The role serves as a primary liaison with financial regulators and other authorities, including CNBV where applicable, and provides advice across Commercial, Finance, Risk, Operations, HR, Tax, Procurement, and cross-border matters.
The role requires a senior legal and compliance executive who can combine strong technical legal expertise with business judgment, executive presence, stakeholder influence, and the ability to lead a high-performing team in a regulated, complex, and growth-oriented environment.Strategic legal leadership and business partnershipLead the Legal, Compliance, and Sustainability functions for all Mexican entities, ensuring the function operates as a strategic partner to the business.Serve as strategic legal advisor to executive leadership on commercial growth, corporate structuring, risk mitigation, governance, and regulated entity matters.Provide timely and practical legal advice across Commercial, Finance, Risk, Operations, HR, Tax, Procurement, and cross-border matters.Support business objectives while protecting the company from legal, regulatory, operational, financial, and reputational risk.Promote an ethical, transparent, accountable,
and business-oriented legal culture across the organization.Commercial contracts, transactions, and asset protectionLead negotiation, drafting, review, and execution of commercial, financial, service, supplier, client, and strategic agreements.Advise on complex transactions, financing arrangements, customer requirements, vendor relationships, and cross-border matters.Protect company assets and support revenue generation through proactive legal risk management and commercially practical solutions.Establish scalable contract standards, approval processes, playbooks, and escalation protocols that improve quality, speed, and consistency.Partner with business leaders to reduce contract friction while maintaining appropriate legal, financial, and compliance controls.Regulatory compliance, AML, governance, privacy, and sustainabilityOversee corporate governance for all Mexican legal entities and serve as Board Member where applicable.Serve as regulatory compliance lead for a regulated SOFOM and act as primary liaison with CNBV and other applicable authorities.Lead AML, regulatory reporting, KYC, customer risk assessments, investigations, regulatory implementation projects, and compliance monitoring.Oversee data privacy, REPSE, regulatory implementation, sustainability, and related governance programs.Ensure the organization maintains an effective governance, compliance, anti-money laundering, risk management, and sustainability framework.Litigation, external counsel,
team leadership, and continuous improvementDirect commercial, regulatory, labour, and criminal litigation strategies while managing external counsel performance, budgets, and outcomes.Lead, coach, and develop the Legal & Compliance team, including direct and dotted-line resources.Build the team's capability, succession depth, operating cadence, and service standards.Drive continuous improvement in legal processes, templates, controls, reporting, and stakeholder service delivery.Maintain strong relationships with internal clients, regulators, external counsel, auditors, and other key stakeholders.Profile Law degree and admission to practice in Mexico or another relevant jurisdiction, with the ability to advise on Mexican legal and regulatory requirements.Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in multinational companies, financial institutions, regulated entities, or international law firms.Extensive experience in corporate governance, financial services regulation, compliance, AML, contract negotiation, litigation, cross-border transactions, data privacy, and risk management.Experience serving as a senior legal advisor to executive leadership and translating complex legal issues into practical business recommendations.Strong understanding of regulated financial services environments, including SOFOM governance and regulator-facing responsibilities.Proven ability to lead litigation strategy, manage external counsel, and balance risk mitigation with business priorities.Demonstrated people leadership capability, including developing teams, setting expectations, building trust, and promoting ethical decision-making.Fully bilingual in English and Spanish, with strong written and verbal communication skills in both languages.
